Definite Matrix Polynomials and their Linearization by Definite Pencils [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Hyperbolic matrix polynomials are an important class of Hermitian matrix polynomials that contain overdamped quadratics as a special case. They share with definite pencils the spectral property that their eigenvalues are real and semisimple.

Inverse Design of Amorphous Materials With Targeted Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
AMDEN is a diffusion model framework for the inverse design of amorphous materials with targeted properties. By incorporating Hamiltonian Monte Carlo refinement into the denoising process, the framework overcomes the challenge of generating thermally relaxed disordered structures.

(De)accenting definite descriptions

open access: yes, 2013
This paper focuses on definite descriptions. It will be shown that a definite description refers to a given discourse referent if the descriptive content is completely deaccented.

Targeted Modulation of d‐Band Center in MoS2 Interlayer With n‐Type Co/Fe Dopants Accelerating Sulfur Reaction Kinetics in Lithium‐Sulfur Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A targeted modulation of the MoS2 electronic structure is achieved via substitutional n‐type Co/Fe co‐doping. This strategy triggers S‐mediated d‐p hybridization, optimizing the binding affinity with polysulfides to establish a volcano‐shaped relationship between the d‐band center and catalytic activity.

The Lakhota Definite Articles and Topic Marking

open access: yesKansas Working Papers in Linguistics, 1999
This paper presents evidence that the definite articles k?u and ki in Lakhota are more adequately described as topic discontinuity and default markers, respectively. Using Givon's referential distance measure (1983), I show that ki is the default article,

Multiobjective Codesign Optimization of a Planar Pneumatic Artificial Muscle‐Based Snake‐Like Robot for Enhanced Agility and Energy Efficiency

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
A codesign multiobjective optimization framework was developed to enhance the morphology and controller of a snake‐like robot driven by artificial muscles. It improved planar locomotion, agility, and power efficiency. The approach optimized link geometry and controller gains, revealing that shorter muscles near joints and longer linkages maximize ...

Definite Descriptions [PDF]

open access: yes
Definite descriptions are expressions of the form `the F'. The present entry begins by explaining Russell's theory of definite descriptions, according to which `The F is G' means `There is exactly one F and it is G'.

Gender on definite pronouns

open access: yesBucharest Working Papers in Linguistics, 2008
This paper explores some issues related to the interpretation of gender on definite pronouns. Gender in definite pronouns (i.e. personal and demonstrative pronouns) may either reflect the gender of the noun of the antecedent (grammatical gender) or a ...

Ultimate-Definite and Symmetric-Definite Events and Automata

open access: yes, 1965
New classes of events and finite automata which generalize the noninitial definite class are introduced. These events, called “ultimate definite” (u.d.), “reverse u.d.” and “symmetric definite,” are investigated as to algebraic and closure properties ...
