Deflection of a Diagnosis

Annals of Internal Medicine, 2007
He sits there, a skeletal silhouette, his body reminiscent of a Holocaust victim, his eyes closed halfway to death. I want to tell him that everything is okay, everything will be fine.

Deflected Confrontations

2019
Though the Cold War ripped apart the almost century-long sporting connection between Cuba and the United States, Major League Baseball’s (MLB) color line and interference in Cuban and Mexican baseball had already stressed this relationship to the breaking point. The Cuban Revolution triggered the island nation’s final departure from the sporting empire

Truss Deflections: The Panel Deflection Method

Transactions of the American Society of Civil Engineers, 1937
The purpose of this paper is to describe a new method for computing the deflections of trusses. In principle, the method is similar to that of computing the deflections of beams, use being made of ...

Improved Functional Deflection with a Dual-Deflection Flexible Ureteroscope

Journal of Endourology, 2004
To compare the maximal active deflection capabilities of a newly designed dual-deflection ureteroscope with those of a standard flexible ureteroscope. The dual-deflection ureteroscope is similar in design to single-deflection ureteroscopes with the addition of a second, more proximal unidirectional deflection point, which is controlled with the index ...

The Deflection of Jets by Clouds

Astrophysics and Space Science, 1995
The role of collisions between extragalactic jets and dense clouds in determining the appearance of high-redshift radio galaxies is discussed and investigated through numerical hydrodynamic simulations in three dimensions. The code has the facility to track jet material separately from ambient material.

Finite Deflection of Plates

1984
Previous works are discussed [e.g. the authors, Int. J. Nonlinear Mech. 17, 187-194 (1982; Zbl 0491.73092) and \textit{C. A. Brebbia} (ed.), Progress in boundary element methods. Vol. I (1981; Zbl 0475.73083)] and the general equations for finite deflection of thin elastic, flat plates based on the Kirchoff-Love theory are presented.

Evolved deflection drawings

2016 IEEE Congress on Evolutionary Computation (CEC), 2016
We introduce a generative system for what we call deflection drawings, drawings made by virtual drawing robots, or drawbots, executing a random walk based on a curvature model of Chappell. Deflection drawings are characterized by the property that drawbots simultaneously avoid the paths of other robots as well as a small number of symmetrically placed ...
