A new method for locating and quantifying damage in beams from static deflection changes [PDF]
static deflection. Using the principle of Virtual Work, for the first time, the deflection change (DC) parameter is formulated as a function of both the damage location and damage severity.

Cathodic Cage Plasma Deposition of Nanostructured Cu–Fe–Se Coatings on Poly(methyl Methacrylate)
Nanostructured Cu–Fe–Se coatings are deposited on PMMA by a modified cathodic cage plasma process, enabling low‐temperature deposition on polymer substrates. A transition from discontinuous to compact morphology is observed with temperature, with optimal properties at 200°C, where improved CuFeSe2‐type bonding, lowest sheet resistance, and favorable ...

Comparison of self-referencing techniques for photothermal detection of trace compounds in water [PDF]
Self-referencing techniques are compared for a closed-cell photothermal detector that uses a water meniscus as a pressure sensor. Deflection of the meniscus was measured using an optical fibre Fabry–Perot interferometer.

In order to reveal the formation mechanism of the manifested waves of cold rolled strips, the distributed dislocation was calculated by using measured residual stress, and a distributed dislocation-residual stress model was proposed. The stress field of an

Asteroid deflection and exploitation : possible synergies
The asteroid and cometary impact hazard has long been recognised as an important issue requiring risk assessment and contingency planning. At the same time asteroids have also been acknowledged as possible sources of raw materials for future large-scale ...

A Dislocation Perspective on Strength and Toughness in Ceramics
Dislocations in ceramics enjoy a long but yet under‐appreciated history. The three research waves for dislocations in ceramics highlight the topic evolution over the last 90 years. This review focuses on the impact of dislocation on strength and toughness in ceramics.

Control of Polarization and Polar Helicity in BiFeO3 by Epitaxial Strain and Interfacial Chemistry
In BiFeO3 thin films, the interplay of interfacial chemistry, electrostatics, and epitaxial strain is engineered to stabilize homohelicity in polarization textures at the domain scale. The synergistic use of a Bi2O2‐terminated Aurivillius buffer layer and a highly anisotropic compressive epitaxial strain offers new routes to control the polar‐texture ...
