Though the Cold War ripped apart the almost century-long sporting connection between Cuba and the United States, Major League Baseball’s (MLB) color line and interference in Cuban and Mexican baseball had already stressed this relationship to the breaking point. The Cuban Revolution triggered the island nation’s final departure from the sporting empire

The Deflection of Jets by Clouds
Astrophysics and Space Science, 1995The role of collisions between extragalactic jets and dense clouds in determining the appearance of high-redshift radio galaxies is discussed and investigated through numerical hydrodynamic simulations in three dimensions. The code has the facility to track jet material separately from ambient material.

Truss Deflections: The Panel Deflection Method
Transactions of the American Society of Civil Engineers, 1937The purpose of this paper is to describe a new method for computing the deflections of trusses. In principle, the method is similar to that of computing the deflections of beams, use being made of ...

Urology, 1973
Abstract Despite the introduction of nephrotomography and renal angiography, routine excretory urography still is the main diagnostic tool in radiology that provides the necessary evidence for the diagnosis of renal tuberculosis. The “deflected” calyx sign results from stricture of an infundibulum which ultimately leads to complete obstruction and a ...

We introduce a generative system for what we call deflection drawings, drawings made by virtual drawing robots, or drawbots, executing a random walk based on a curvature model of Chappell. Deflection drawings are characterized by the property that drawbots simultaneously avoid the paths of other robots as well as a small number of symmetrically placed ...

Beam Deflections and Rotations
1990Most of the previous seven programmes have been concerned with the analysis of different forms of stress and the application of the theories which we have developed to the analysis and design of different forms of structure and structural components.

Standardized Deflections on ECGs
JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1984To the Editor.— A properly performed ECG should include a standardization deflection. This ensures that 1 mV of current will result in a 1-cm deflection and that the excursions of waves in successive tracings may be accurately compared. When QRS excursions are large, half standardization (1 mV=0.5 cm) may be used.

A digital method of deflecting a light beam using n optical modulators and n uniaxial crystals to provide 2n positions of the beam is described. The input-output relations for one special configuration are derived. Optical problems and limitations are investigated and, in particular, it is found that the upper limit to the density of positions is about
