Electron Beam Deflection: Part I. Small-Angle Deflection Theory

Journal of Applied Physics, 1947
Two general mathematical methods are discussed which may be used to study the effects of electric and/or magnetic deflection fields on electron beams. The basic equations for the ``path method'' are the equations of motion of Newton or Euler-Lagrange.

Analysis of electrostatic small-angle deflection

IEEE Transactions on Electron Devices, 1971
Electron beam aberrations resulting from deflection by two sets of similar, mutally perpendicular electrostatic deflectors have been studied. The analysis is applicable to the cases where the beam can be treated as a collection of noninteracting individual electrons deflected through a small angle by spatially smooth fields.

Angle-sensitive Metasurface with Expanded Deflection Range for Continuous Illumination Angles

2019 International Conference on Microwave and Millimeter Wave Technology (ICMMT), 2019
An angle-sensitive metasurface is proposed to deflect the electromagnetic waves from continuous illumination angles. The unit-cells of this metasurface are designed to have tilted structures, which make their phase response sensitive to different incident angles.

Two-dimensional small-angle deflection theory

IEEE Transactions on Electron Devices, 1968
The aberrations resulting from the deflection of an electron beam by two similar, mutually perpendicular magnetic fields have been evaluated. The beam is assumed to be composed of noninteracting, nonrelativistic particles converging, when undeflected, to a single point in the center of the target.

Deflection defocusing effects in cathode-ray tubes at large deflection angles

IEEE Transactions on Electron Devices, 1970
In modern color television tubes, an array of three electron beams, converging at a target, is deflected through angles of up to 55°. The conventional, small-angle deflection theory cannot be extended to deal with the convergence defects of deflection fields at such large angles since certain series expansions, basic to that theory, diverge at angles ...

Dispersive infrared phase angle photothermal beam deflection spectroscopy

Infrared Physics, 1988
Abstract An earlier theory of phase angle photoacoustic spectroscopy has been extended and applied to photothermal beam deflection (PBD). The results reveal a relationship between the phase lag of the PBD signal and the optical absorption coefficient of the sample. The PBD signal's dependence upon the modulation frequency is also determined.

Ferromagnetic shape memory microscanner with large deflection angles

International Journal of Applied Electromagnetics and Mechanics, 2006
A Ni-Mn-Ga microscanner has been developed as a test platform for an experimentally study of the coupled thermal, magnetic and mechanical performance of ferromagnetic shape memory alloy (FSMA) actuators. The microscanner is designed as a double-beam cantilever of a magnetron sputtered Ni-Mn-Ga thin film.

Electron Beam Deflection: Part II. Applications of the Small-Angle Deflection Theory

Journal of Applied Physics, 1947
The theory developed in Part I is applied to a number of typical deflection fields such as the fields produced by parallel plates, parallel cylinders, semi-infinite co-planar sheets, and bent-plates. Graphs for the magnitude of deflection are given. An electrolytic tank potential-plotting device is described which was used for the determination of the ...

Optical-heterodyne method for measuring a deflection angle

Optics Communications, 1984
Abstract A new form of an optical heterodyne method for measuring a deflection angle is proposed. In this method we detect the phase deviation of the beat signal between the light waves scattered by two neighboring points in a rough surface. The detected phase deviation is proportional to the difference of the displacements at the two points, which ...

Large deflection vibration of angle ply laminated plates

Journal of Sound and Vibration, 1975
Large deflection vibration of unsymmetric angle ply laminated rectangular plates are studied. Two different out of plane boundary conditions considered are (a) all the edges clamped, and (b) all the edges simply supported. The dynamic analogues of Von Karman 's large deflection equations for laminated plates are used.
