Deflections of Beams

2020
A loaded beam is initially straight but remains no longer straight in due course of time because of deflection of its axis. Deflection is the shifting of a point from its initial position in the transverse direction, while slope at a point is the angle made by the tangent drawn on the deflected beam at that point with the original axis of the beam.

Deflection of Beams

2005
Let v be the deflection of a prismatic beam’s neutral axis (the line through the centroid of the cross section) relative to the x axis, and let θ be the angle between the neutral axis and the x axis. The objective of this chapter is to determine v and θ as functions of x for a beam with given loads.

Deflection beam-chopping in the SEM

Journal of Physics E: Scientific Instruments, 1977
Beam-chopping in the scanning electron microscope (SEM) by electrostatic deflection over an aperture is examined in some detail. The chopping aperture used is the final aperture image and the beam is of finite diameter. The required deflection angle to cut off the beam and the apparent movement of the spot due to the deflection in chopping are obtained

On the analogy between deflected elastic beams and deflected relativistic electron beams

Mechanics Research Communications, 1986
The analogy existing between various physical phenomena apparently unconnected is not a singular event. Indeed, many such analogies have been noticed; let us only mention the duality existing between the electric and magnetic field theories. Another such example - and still in a general context - is the fact that the theory of fluids also constitutes a

A Survey of Laser Beam Deflection Techniques

Proceedings of the IEEE, 1966
Methods of high-resolution, high-speed, optical beam deflection and scanning are reviewed with respect to resolution and scanning frequency capabilities. A general description is given of external deflector devices in the categories of variable reflectors, variable refractors, birefringent deflectors, and interference deflectors.

Deflection of Beams

1969
Consider a short length of beam δx, under the action of a bending moment M. If δ is the bending stress on an element of the cross-section of area δA at a distance y from the neutral axis, the strain energy of the length δx is given by But ...

Small Deflection of Beams

1963
We continue the study of continuous systems with the consideration of small deflections of beams. These beams are taken to be perfectly elastic and also to be straight when they assume their natural shape.
