Regrowth dynamics and morpho-physiological characteristics of Plantago lanceolata under different defoliation frequencies and intensities [PDF]
Traditional pastures in temperate regions face limitations such as reduced growth and nutritional quality during the summer season. Plantain (P. lanceolata L.) offers advantages like increased yield and decreased nitrogen losses from grazing ruminants ...

ABSTRACT Subfossil insect communities from the Quartz Creek site provide a detailed record of both Late Pleistocene steppe–tundra and Holocene boreal forest ecosystems in central Yukon Territory, Canada. Fifteen Pleistocene assemblages (marine isotope stages [MIS] 4 to 2) are dominated by steppe–tundra and dry‐tundra taxa, particularly the weevils ...

Synergistic effects of maize defoliation and common bean relay cropping in Western Ethiopia
Abstract Background Maize defoliation is practiced to enhance crop management by improving light penetration, nutrient allocation, controlling weeds, and providing supplementary feeds for livestock. A rapid decline in soil fertility and low crop yields associated with maize‐based monocropping has prompted the recent introduction of maize common bean ...

Caribou forage lichens were present in post‐burn lodgepole pine stands multiple decades before stem‐density was likely open enough to attract wintering caribou. We posit that the prolonged self‐thinning of lodgepole pine after fire may be a greater limiting factor than lichen abundance for habitat recovery in lodgepole pine forests.

From mainland to islands: the evolution of resistance and tolerance to herbivory in long‐lived oaks
Island biogeography theory predicts that island plants should exhibit reduced defences compared with their mainland relatives due to relaxed herbivory pressure. However, growing empirical evidence challenges this prediction, revealing substantial variation among systems, plant lineages and defence types.

Cotton Defoliation Evaluations, 1998
A field experiment was conducted near Marana, AZ in 1998 to evaluate the effectiveness of a number of defoliation treatments on Upland (var. Stoneville 474) cotton.. All treatments consisted of materials commercially available in Arizona.

A challenge for wild plant conservation is the rising incidence of plant pathogens that are difficult to interdict, contain and manage. Invasive, fast‐moving, broad‐spectrum pathogens impose societal costs through losses of intrinsically valuable wild biodiversity, ecosystem function, current and potential genetic and biological assets, culturally ...

Environmental Stress Effects on Vigor, Mortality, and Growth in Northern Hardwood Forests Along a Pollution-Climate Gradient [PDF]
Concern exists over the effects of interacting environmental stresses on the ecological integrity of temperate forests. Coincidence of sensitivity to drought, increasing occurrence of defoliation, and elevated pollutant deposition has produced ...

Distribution of non-structural carbohydrates and root structure of Plantago lanceolata L. under different defoliation frequencies and intensities [PDF]
Plantago lanceolata L. (plantain) increases herbage dry matter (DM) production and quality during warm and dry conditions due to its deep roots and drought tolerance and reduces nitrogen losses in grazing systems compared to traditional pastures. However,

Despite the predominant role of bud banks in the regeneration of clonal macrophyte populations, few studies have examined the way in which clonal macrophytes adjust the demographic features of bud banks to regulate population dynamics in response to ...
