Thermal Deformations of Solid Mirrors

Applied Optics, 1970
The tensor equations of elasticity including temperature terms in nonorthogonal coordinates are presented in a form suitable for the method of dynamic relaxation. A nonorthogonal coordinate system that includes a wide class of circular solid mirrors or lenses is described.

Optimization and performance of multi-deformable mirror correction on the THD2 bench

Astronomical Telescopes + Instrumentation, 2018
High-contrast imaging (HCI) techniques appear like the best solutions to directly characterize the atmosphere of large orbit planets and planetary environments. In the last 20 years, different HCI solutions have been proposed based on coronagraphs.

A ferrofluidic deformable mirror for ophthalmology

SPIE Proceedings, 2005
Optical aberrations reduce the imaging quality of the human eye. In addition to degrading vision, this limits our ability to illuminate small points of the retina for therapeutic, surgical or diagnostic purposes. When viewing the rear of the eye, aberrations cause structures in the fundus to appear blurred, limiting the resolution of ophthalmoscopes (

Modeling and Control of a Deformable Mirror

Journal of Dynamic Systems, Measurement, and Control, 2002
A multi-input multi-output surface shape control system model is developed to study wavefront aberration correction. The plant model represents a deformable mirror and utilizes a finite element model that is validated using an actual prototype deformable mirror and an interferometer system.

Testing and characterization of deformable mirrors

Adaptive Optics Systems VI, 2018
Deformable mirrors are at the heart of any adaptive optics system. We present the results of tests of deformable mirrors from Microscale. One of the key innovations of these deformable mirrors is that the facesheet is created from a silicon on insulator (SOI) wafer with integral posts for mechanical linkage to the actuators. This dramat- ically reduces

Dynamic deformation of scanning mirrors

2000 IEEE/LEOS International Conference on Optical MEMS (Cat. No.00EX399), 2002
Summary form only given. MEMS mirrors are capable of scanning at frequencies greater than 34 kHz. Both diffraction and dynamic deformation are dependent on the mirror size; increasing the mirror length decreases diffraction, but increases dynamic deformation.

Design of the deformable mirror demonstration CubeSat (DeMi)

Optical Engineering + Applications, 2017
The Deformable Mirror Demonstration Mission (DeMi) was recently selected by DARPA to demonstrate in-space operation of a wavefront sensor and Microelectromechanical system (MEMS) deformable mirror (DM) payload on a 6U CubeSat.

Surface micromachined deformable mirrors

Proceedings 1996 IEEE Conference on Emerging Technologies and Factory Automation. ETFA '96, 2002
At Boston University, we have begun a project on surface-machined microactuators coordinated to achieve precision actuation and control of deformable mirrors for modulation of optical wavefronts. The mirror is supported on a massively parallel system of electrostatically-controlled, interconnected microactuators that can be coordinated to achieve ...

A deformable secondary mirror for the VLT

SPIE Proceedings, 2006
ESO has initiated in June 2004 a feasibility study to investigate the possibility to retro-fit one of the VLT 8 m telescope with a deformable secondary mirror (DSM). The scope of this effort has been broadened to a concept of Adaptive Optics Facility (adaptive telescope with adapted instrument park).

Flexible femtosecond inscription of fiber Bragg gratings by an optimized deformable mirror.

Optics Letters, 2017
The period of fiber Bragg gratings is adapted by shaping the wavefronts of ultrashort laser pulses applied in a phase mask inscription technique. A specially designed deformable mirror, based on a dielectric substrate to withstand high peak powers, is ...
