Robust control of a bimorph mirror for adaptive optics system [PDF]
We apply robust control technics to an adaptive optics system including a dynamic model of the deformable mirror. The dynamic model of the mirror is a modification of the usual plate equation. We propose also a state-space approach to model the turbulent

A Lorentz Force Actuated Continuous Deformable Polymer Mirror for Wavefront Control
This paper describes MEMS deformable polymer mirror system for adaptive optics application. This system employs a 4 µm thick SU-8 membrane with a stress balanced double side aluminum coating as a mirror element.

Sixty-Nine-Element Voice Coil Deformable Mirror for Visible Light Communication
To overcome the atmospheric turbulence aberration, and improve the quality of light beam in visible light communication (VLC), a compact 69-element deformable mirror (DM) using micro voice coil actuators was designed based on systematic theoretical ...

Deformable Mirrors developments at ESO [PDF]
Already several deformable mirrors are in use at Paranal and more will come in the next years. With the next generation and telescope and associated instruments, adaptive optics become an integrated part of the telescope and provide as such the first layer of image correction.

A Demonstration of Wavefront Sensing and Mirror Phasing from the Image Domain [PDF]
In astronomy and microscopy, distortions in the wavefront affect the dynamic range of a high contrast imaging system. These aberrations are either imposed by a turbulent medium such as the atmosphere, by static or thermal aberrations in the optical path,

Wavefront sensing with a brightest pixel selection algorithm
Astronomical adaptive optics systems with open-loop deformable mirror control have recently come on-line. In these systems, the deformable mirror surface is not included in the wavefront sensor paths, and so changes made to the deformable mirror are not ...

MEMS deformable mirror CubeSat testbed [PDF]
To meet the high contrast requirement of 1 × 10[superscript −10] to image an Earth-like planet around a Sun-like star, space telescopes equipped with coronagraphs require wavefront control systems.

ADAPTIVE OPTICS WITH SEGMENTED MIRROR OR DEFORMABLE MIRROR
Two kinds of adaptive optics (COAT) are presented : one with segmented mirrors (COAT = 19) with 19 mirrors and actuators and the other with a continuously deformable mirror and 7 actuators. Each mirror of COAT 19 is moved by a piezoelectric actuator performing correction and modulation (dithering in the 12-24 kHz band).

A common problem in deformable mirror assembly is that the adhesion of actuators to an optical mirror face sheet introduces unwanted topography due to large local stresses generated at the adhesive joint.
