Intergranular pressure solution in halite aggregates and quartz sands : an experimental investigation

open access: yes, 1991
This thesis reports an experimental investigation into intergranular pressure solution (IPS) as a compaction mechanism in wet (i.e. brine-saturated) halite aggregates and wet quartz sands.

Large Deformation Mechanism and Support Countermeasures of Deep-Buried Soft Rock Tunnels Under High Geostress State

open access: yesBuildings
To address the problem of large deformation in deep-buried high geostress soft rock tunnels, the Yuelongmen Tunnel was selected as the research subject and adopting the methods of on-site measurements, laboratory experiments and theories, the ...

Towards Defect Phase Diagrams: From Research Data Management to Automated Workflows

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A research data management infrastructure is presented for the systematic integration of heterogeneous experimental and simulation data required for defect phase diagrams. The approach combines openBIS with a companion application for large‐object storage, automated metadata extraction, provenance tracking and federated data access, thereby supporting ...

Achieving Superplasticity in Ultrafine-Grained Mg-9Li Alloy via Dual-Phase Microstructure Optimization

open access: yesMetals
In this study, high toughness and superplastic deformability were achieved in Mg-9Li alloys through dual-phase microstructure optimization. Solid solution (SS) and equal channel angular pressing (ECAP) treatments were employed to refine the alloy’s ...

Solid‐State Diffusion and Intermetallic Phase Formation in Roll‐Bonded Mg–Zn Composites With Kirigami‐Patterned Inlay

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Mg–Zn composites with a thickness of 0.21 mm were fabricated using roll bonding of a kirigami‐patterned Mg alloy inlay within a Zn matrix. Thermal activation following this process led to the formation of tailored intermetallic structures, which provided the composite with enhanced flexural strength.

A Simplified Laminar Flow Model for the Pultrusion of Glass Fiber/Polyethylene Terephthalate Commingled Yarns

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A simplified thermoplastic pultrusion model is developed to predict thermal fields in glass fiber/polyethylene terephthalate (GF/PET) composites with reduced computational cost. By combining effective material homogenization, validation against literature data, and Gaussian‐process‐based optimization, the study reveals how heating limits, pulling speed,

Plastic deformation mechanism in complex solids

open access: yes, 2010
In simple crystalline materials, plastic deformation mostly takes place by the movement of dislocations. Although the underlying mechanisms in these materials are well explored, in complex metallic alloys--crystalline solids containing up to thousands of

Rafting of Ni‐Based Superalloys Under Multiaxial Load as Understood by Phase‐Field Simulations and Critical Experiments

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Phase‐field simulations coupled with dislocation‐density‐based crystal plasticity modeling reproduce γ′ rafting behavior in single‐crystal Ni‐based superalloys under varied loading conditions. The model captures both macroscopic creep and microscopic morphology evolution, with results matching high‐temperature creep experiments.
