Prevention of paralytic ileus utilizing alvimopan following spine surgery

open access: yesOrthopedic Reviews, 2015
Postoperative ileus affects a substantial proportion of patients undergoing elective spine surgery, especially in cases of spinal deformity correction and where an anterior lumbar approach is utilized. Though the first line of treatment for postoperative

Three deformation functors for associative algebras [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2005
We show that three deformation functors (deformations of the product, flat deformations and deformations of the relations) assigned to an associative algebra are naturally isomorphic.

Relationship between thoracic kyphosis and neural axis abnormalities in patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Purpose:Previous studies have suggested an association between increased thoracic kyphosis and neural axis abnormalities in patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS). However, the basis for this finding is unclear, and this association has been

How the neck affects the back: changes in regional cervical sagittal alignment correlate to HRQOL improvement in adult thoracolumbar deformity patients at 2-year follow-up.

open access: yesJournal of Neurosurgery : Spine, 2015
OBJECT Regional cervical sagittal alignment (C2-7 sagittal vertical axis [SVA]) has been shown to correlate with health-related quality of life (HRQOL).

Closing the gap in plan quality: Leveraging deep‐learning dose prediction for adaptive radiotherapy

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose Balancing quality and efficiency has been a challenge for online adaptive therapy. Most systems start the online re‐optimization with the original planning goals. While some systems allow planners to modify the planning goals, achieving a high‐quality plan within time constraints remains a common barrier.

Evaluation of dental plaque reduction using microcurrent-emitting toothbrushes in orthodontic patients: a randomized, double-blind, crossover clinical trial

open access: yesScientific Reports
This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of microcurrent-emitting toothbrushes (MCTs) and ordinary toothbrushes in reducing the dental plaque index (PI) and dental caries activity among orthodontic patients.

Bone‐wise rigid registration of femur, tibia, and fibula for the tracking of temporal changes

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Multiple myeloma (MM) induces temporal alterations in bone structure, such as osteolytic bone lesions, which are challenging to identify through manual image interpretation. The large variation in radiologists' assessments, even at expert centers, further complicates diagnosis.

Simultaneous correction of leg length discrepancy and angular deformity of the distal femur with retrograde Precice nails: a retrospective analysis of 45 patients

open access: yesActa Orthopaedica
Background and purpose: Magnetically controlled motorized intramedullary lengthening nails (ILNs) can be employed for simultaneous correction of angular deformities of the distal femur and leg length discrepancy.

Exploring surface‐guided systems for intelligent breathing‐adapted four‐dimensional computed tomography: A comparison to infrared‐based reflective marker systems

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose This study evaluates the technical feasibility of adapting a surface monitoring system, designed for conventional four‐dimensional computed tomography (4DCT), to an intelligent, breathing‐adapted 4DCT and examines its potential to expand the currently limited range of supported surrogate systems.

Simultaneous Deformations of Lie Algebroids and Lie Subalgebroids [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2012
The $L_\infty$-algebra is an algebraic structure suitable for describing deformation problems. In this paper we construct one $L_\infty$-algebra, which turns out to be a differential graded Lie algebra, to control the deformations of Lie algebroids and a second one to control the deformations of Lie subalgebroids.
