Deformities of the hand

The American Journal of Surgery, 1958
T HE successfu1 repair of deformities of the hand is contingent on: (I) thorough study and evaIuation of the abnormaIity; (2) definite pIanning of each procedure; (3) the conservation of a11 avaiIabIe tissue; (4) prevention, if possibIe, of any Ioss of tissue; and (5) sufficient time intervaIs between surgica1 procedures.

Sprengel's deformity

Skeletal Radiology, 1979
A unique specimen of unilateral Sprengel's deformity, and contralateral normal pectoral girdle, were studied morphologically and roentgenographically. The cervical spine exhibited multiple abnormalities involving both the vertebral centra as well as the posterior elements (Klippel-Feil abnormality). A small spina bifida involving C5 and C6 was present.

Asymmetry in deformation

Nature Materials, 2021
Amorphous silicon shows abnormal tension–compression asymmetry, with much higher tensile yield strength than compressive yield. This discovery advances our understanding of plasticity in this and other similar amorphous materials.

Plate Deformation

2007
The chapter compares Global Positioning System (GPS), differential interferometry synthetic aperture radar (DInSAR), and GRACE space data to displacements, velocities, and gravity anomalies inferred from geophysical modeling of various geophysical processes, to gain insight into the physics of plate-deformation mode.

Deformities

2015
Deformities are important markers for congenital and hereditary neuromuscular disorders. For example, kyphosis, scoliosis, and pes cavus are common in Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT) disease and hereditary ataxias. Deformities such as high feet arches may also result from long-time weakness and asymmetry.

Madelung's Deformity

Reumatología Clínica (English Edition), 2014
The patient is a 39-year-old woman who presented nocturnal paresthesia lasting for 6 months on both hands, but predominantly right (dominant hand). She presented mechanical pain of both wrists, with a visual analog score (VAS) of 90/100. Upon examination, there was a solid tumor on the posterior side of both wrists (Fig.

Torsional Deformity

Pediatric Clinics of North America, 1977
Torsional deformity should be localized, quantitated, and usually managed by "observation," an approach that is set forth in detail in this article. Shoe modifications and daytime braces are inappropriate. Night splints or operative procedures are rarely indicated.

The deformation matrix and the deformation ellipsoid

Journal of Structural Geology, 1979
Abstract Homogeneous strain can be computed most easily by the methods of matrix algebra. Lines, planes and ellipsoids represented in matrix form can be homogeneously deformed by simple matrix multiplication by linear transformation matrices, the elements of which are the coefficients of the transformation equations.

Localization of Deformation

2009
Even if material is subjected to a homogeneous stress, the deformation concentrates in a quite narrow strip zone as the deformation becomes large and finally the material results in failure. Such a concentration of deformation is called the localization of deformation and the strip zone is called the shear band. The shear band thickness is the order of
