Scalable Laser Processing Enables Transparent, Accretion Scale‐Independent, Ice‐Shedding Glass

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We demonstrate a scalable laser‐based method to create wave‐like micro‐patterns on glass surfaces that counter the conventional view that roughness increases ice adhesion. These patterns direct crack propagation at the ice–glass interface, enabling low‐force, multi‐directional ice detachment while maintaining substrate transparency. A theoretical model

Cold Climate Field Study of the Effect of Defrost Controls on the Integrated Performance of a Ductless Air-Source Heat Pump

open access: yesEnergies
Residential heat pumps have advanced over the past decade to allow for operation at colder temperatures. However, the challenges of frost accumulation and defrosting the outdoor coil remain.

Peripherally Fluorinated Tetraphenylethene: New Electron Extraction Interlayers for n‐i‐p Perovskite Solar Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
Fluorinated tetraphenylethene (TPE) derivatives were developed as interfacial layers for perovskite solar cells. The optimized TFP‐TPE enhances interfacial compatibility, suppresses molecular aggregation, and improves charge extraction. Devices incorporating TFP‐TPE achieved a record efficiency of 25.29% and outstanding stability under humidity and ...

Modelling the defrost process in complex geometries – part 2: wall-function based coupling to a multi-region CFD solver

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences, 2017
Presence of frost in air coolers reduces the performance and thus has to be removed frequently. A method commonly applied for frost removal is hot-gas defrosting.

Visual Haptic Feedback for Training of Robotic Suturing

open access: yesFrontiers in Robotics and AI, 2022
Current surgical robotic systems are teleoperated and do not have force feedback. Considerable practice is required to learn how to use visual input such as tissue deformation upon contact as a substitute for tactile sense.

PyCOOL - a Cosmological Object-Oriented Lattice code written in Python

open access: yes, 2012
There are a number of different phenomena in the early universe that have to be studied numerically with lattice simulations. This paper presents a graphics processing unit (GPU) accelerated Python program called PyCOOL that solves the evolution of ...

Body donor programs in Australia and New Zealand: Current status and future opportunities

open access: yesAnatomical Sciences Education, Volume 18, Issue 3, Page 301-328, March 2025.
Abstract Body donation is critical to anatomy study in Australia and New Zealand. Annually, more than 10,000 students, anatomists, researchers, and clinicians access tissue donated by local consented donors through university‐based body donation programs. However, little research has been published about their operations.

Performance Model of General Air Source Heat Pump in a Single Frost/Defrost Cycle

open access: yesZhileng xuebao, 2015
Conventional air source heat pump and no-frost air source heat pump can be categorized as general air source heat pump. The physical characteristics and energy consumption of general air source heat pump system in a frost/defrost cycle is analyzed based ...

TreeRipper: towards a fully automated optical tree recognition software [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Relationships between species, genes and genomes have been printed as trees for over a century. Whilst this may have been the best format for exchanging and sharing phylogenetic hypotheses during the 20th century, the worldwide web now provides faster ...
