The effect of four different freezing conditions and time in frozen storage on the concentration of commonly measured growth factors and enzymes in equine platelet-rich plasma over six months

open access: yesBMC Veterinary Research, 2019
Background Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a therapeutic biologic that is used for treatment of musculoskeletal pathologies in equine athletes. Due to the expense of PRP kits, and the volumes obtained, freezing aliquots for future dosing is common ...

A tunable microwave absorption metamaterial inspired by moths evading bat detection

open access: yesInfoMat, EarlyView.
Electromagnetic radiation in the current environment has become complex and uncontrollable due to the advancement of wireless technology. Inspired by the moth surface cilia to bend and evade bat sonar detection, our work introduces a metamaterial incorporating broadband and tunable microwave absorption properties combined with deep learning algorithms.

Ocean acidification at the crossroads I: Harmonizing unpurified and purified meta‐cresol purple spectrophotometric pHT measurements based on absorbance data

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography: Methods, EarlyView.
Abstract Consistent monitoring of seawater spectrophotometric pH on the total hydrogen ion scale (pHT) has been questioned by an evolving method, with changes in parameterization and the purity of the meta‐cresol purple (mCP). Using real seawater samples, we demonstrate that spectrophotometric pHT measurements obtained with unpurified (UNPUR) and ...

Bioengineered Bacterial Vesicles and Biomimetic Hybrids Eliminate Biofilms and Balance the Gut Microbiome

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
Biomimetic nanocarriers based on liposomes and Myxobacteria outer‐membrane vesicles (OMVs) are effective antibiotic delivery systems. Hybrids have a higher drug loading and can target intracellular pathogens, while OMVs evade immune clearance. Biomimetic nanoantibiotics effectively eliminate the biofilms of Gram‐negative bacteria. Besides, Myxobacteria

Experimental Study of the Cross-Influence of Frost Morphology and Defrost Strategy on the Performance of Tube-Fin Evaporators of Household Refrigerators

open access: yesThermo
This study is aimed at evaluating the combined influence of running conditions that affect frost morphology and defrost strategies on the thermal-fluid-dynamic performance of tube-fin ‘no-frost’ evaporators.

Organelle Sorting and Proteomic Analysis to Identify Proteins Involved in the Uptake and Intracellular Trafficking of Nanoparticles

open access: yesSmall Methods, EarlyView.
A new method to identify proteins involved in the uptake and intracellular trafficking of nanoparticles is presented. After nanoparticle uptake, cells are lysed and the organelles with nanoparticles are purified using fluorescence assisted cell sorting. Next, their composition is determined by proteomic analysis.
