Resonant degenerate four-wave mixing spectroscopy of transitions with degenerate energy levels: Saturation and polarization effects

open access: closedThe Journal of Chemical Physics, 1999
The physics of the degenerate four-wave mixing process for resonant transitions between two degenerate energy levels is investigated by direct numerical integration of the time-dependent density matrix equations. The Zeeman structure of the upper and lower energy levels is included in a multistate formulation of the density matrix equations.

Adiabatic Theorem Violation for Degenerate Energy Levels

open access: closedPhysica Scripta, 1999
For the exactly solvable model of a two-mode oscillator with slowly varying frequency of one of the modes it is demonstrated that such a quantum number as the angular momentum of the oscillator is not conserved in the adiabatic limit.

Mean occupation number for noninteracting paraparticles in degenerate energy levels

open access: closedAmerican Journal of Physics, 1996
The combinatorial solution of finding the number of ways of distributing n particles into g distinguishable groups such that no group contains fewer than q objects or more than q+a objects is used to obtain the mean occupation number of noninteracting paraparticles in degenerate energy levels.

Diagrammatic analysis of adiabatic and time-independent perturbation theory for degenerate energy levels

open access: closedChemical Physics Letters, 1978
Time-ordered folded diagrams are used to represent the effective hamiltonian in the adiabatic formalism. Resummation of the diagrams is shown to give a term-by-term correspondence with time-independent perturbation ...

Kinetic theory of light-induced drift of particles with degenerate energy levels

open access: closedJournal of Physics A: Mathematical and General, 1986
The theory of light-induced drift of particles with degenerate levels is proposed. Kinetic equations which are semiclassical with respect to rotational degrees of freedom and with a phase memory accounting are obtained. The drift velocity dependence on radiation polarisation is predicted. Numerical calculation, which has been made in a strong collision
