Degree days: the different types

open access: yes, 1979
Some energy requirements are correlated with the accumulated air temperature above or below some standard or base temperature. When computed from daily mean temperatures, these temperature differences are called degree days. Definitions are given of heating degree-days, cooling degree-days, growing degree-days, and freezing and thawing degree-days.
