Experimental generation of partially coherent beams with different complex degrees of coherence
Optics Letters, 2013We established an experimental setup for generating partially coherent beams with different complex degrees of coherence, and we report experimental generation of an elliptical Gaussian Schell-model (GSM) beam and a Laguerre-GSM beam for the first time.

Degree of coherence and electromagnetic resonators
SPIE Proceedings, 2004Electromagnetic theory of open laser resonators is formulated in the domain of partially coherent optics. The theory is then used to find out the electromagnetic degree of coherence of the field in various situations. It is shown that if only one transverse mode is present in the steady-state condition, then the field is necessarily completely coherent

Relation between degrees of coherence for electromagnetic fields
Optics Letters, 2007In terms of the electric spectral density tensors associated with a random electromagnetic field, it is shown that, under certain conditions, a link can be established between two definitions of the degree of coherence for electromagnetic beams introduced not long ago by Wolf [Phys. Lett. A312, 263 (2003)] and by Setälä [Opt. Lett.29, 328 (2004)]. This

Degree of Coherence in Space-Division Multiplexed Transmission
Journal of Lightwave Technology, 2014We generalize the concept of degree of polarization of single-mode fields to multi-mode fields by introducing a new parameter that we define degree of mutual coherence. The new definition enables characterizing by a single parameter the quality of the signal corrupted by various linear and nonlinear impairments at the output of an optical transmission ...

Expansion of complex degree of coherence
Il Nuovo Cimento B, 1979In this paper we establish an expansion of complex degree of coherence by using the properties that we can obtain from its definition. In the third section we utilize this expansion for studying the problem of object reconstruction; we conclude that, if the optical system fulfils some conditions, it is possible to construct, in an unique way, the ...

The spectral degree of coherence of fully spatially coherent electromagnetic beams
Optics Communications, 2003We determine a general form of the cross-spectral density matrix and the spectral degree of coherence of the electric field of a fully spatially coherent electromagnetic beam. Our result implies that complete spatial coherence does not, in general, impose any conditions on the state of polarization of the beam.

Two-time coherence of pulse trains and the integrated degree of temporal coherence
Journal of the Optical Society of America A, 2015We examine the temporal coherence properties of trains of nonidentical short optical pulses in the framework of the second-order coherence theory of nonstationary light. Considering Michelson's interferometric measurement of temporal coherence, we demonstrate that time-resolved interferograms reveal the full two-time temporal coherence function of the ...

Degree of spatial coherence in refractive media
Journal of the Optical Society of America A, 1992An expression for the degree of spatial coherence of radiation that undergoes refraction is given for a wide class of refractive-index profiles. This expression yields a simple generalization of a well-known result of the van Cittert–Zernike theorem, which was derived for nonrefractive media.

Degree of Higher-Order Optical Coherence
Journal of Mathematical Physics, 1967In this paper we define the normalized coherence function of arbitrary order (m, n), in a manner which seems to be a natural generalization of that defined for the second-order coherence function. Both classical and quantized optical fields are considered and the results are compared. It is shown that for classical fields and also for quantized optical
