Kondo effect of a Co atom on Cu(111) in contact with an Fe tip
Single Co atoms, which exhibit a Kondo effect on Cu(111), are contacted with Cu and Fe tips in a low-temperature scanning tunneling microscope. With Fe tips, the Kondo effect persists with the Abrikosov-Suhl resonance significantly broadened. In contrast,

Inter-pocket pairing and gap symmetry in Fe-based superconductors with only electron pockets
Pairing symmetry in recently discovered Fe-based metallic superconductors AFe$_2$Se$_2$ (A = K, Rb, Cs) with high transition temperature $T_c \sim 40$ K is currently a subject of intensive debates.

Dynamic hybrid position/force control of a two degree‐of‐freedom flexible manipulator
AbstractIn this article, a method is proposed whereby both contact force exerted by a flexible manipulator and position of end‐effector while in contact with a surface are controlled. We approximate elastic deformations by means of B‐spline functions and derive dynamic equations of joint angles, vibration of the flexible link, and constraint force.

Label-Free Potentiometry for Detecting DNA Hybridization Using Peptide Nucleic Acid and DNA Probes
Peptide nucleic acid (PNA) has outstanding affinity over DNA for complementary nucleic acid sequences by forming a PNA-DNA heterodimer upon hybridization via Watson-Crick base-pairing.

Differential regulation of expression of the multiple ADP/ATP translocase genes in human cells [PDF]
The expression of the genes encoding the three isoforms of the human ADP/ATP translocase (T1, T2, and T3) has been investigated in cultured cell systems under different experimental conditions, using isoform- specific probes.

Over the past 2 decades, biologists have come to appreciate that hybridization, or genetic exchange between distinct lineages, is remarkably common-not just in particular lineages but in taxonomic groups across the tree of life.
