Surgical removal of a perirectal melanoma through sphincterotomy and rectal wall resection in a horse

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Education, EarlyView.
Summary Melanomas are among the most frequent neoplasms in grey horses. Deep perirectal melanomas, however, are uncommon and challenging to excise due to their proximity to the peritoneal reflection. This report describes the successful standing removal of a large (16 × 8 × 6 cm) perirectal melanoma firmly adherent to the dorsal rectal wall in a 19 ...

Update on innovative surgical techniques for omphalectomy in foals

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Education, EarlyView.
Summary Umbilical infection is a common foal disorder, prone to complications, requiring surgical excision in severe cases. Timely surgical excision is the treatment of choice in these cases, as the infected umbilicus places the foal at risk for further fatal complications, such as sepsis and septic arthritis.

Equine eyelid reconstruction by semi‐circular skin flap blepharoplasty

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Education, EarlyView.
Summary Reconstructive surgeries of the equine eyelid carry significant challenges for the equine surgeon, due to the poorly mobile and tightly adhered facial skin in this species. Preservation of lid function is an essential surgical consideration in order to maintain protection of the globe and cornea and to provide ocular comfort to the case ...

Cleanse, Perfuse, Retain (CPR) Protocol for Management of Postoperative Infections With d‐PTFE Membranes: Clinical Reports of Three Cases

open access: yesJournal of Esthetic and Restorative Dentistry, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Postoperative infection is a serious complication of bone augmentation procedures, potentially resulting in graft failure, basal bone resorption, and spread of infection to adjacent anatomic spaces. This paper introduces the CPR (Cleanse, Perfuse, and Retain) protocol and illustrates its clinical application in the management of low‐

Optimized Cas‐SF01 gene‐editing toolbox shortens flowering timing in commercial maize inbred JING724

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, EarlyView.
The gene‐editing tool Cas‐SF01 was optimized to maximize its efficiency in maize. The Cas‐SF01‐TREX2 configuration was superior in enabling high‐purity gene mutations. This toolkit enabled commercial maize to flower seven days earlier without yield loss, thereby securing harvests and accelerating crop breeding.
