Production Standard and Stability of Compounded Del Nido Cardioplegia Solution [PDF]

open access: yesHospital Pharmacy, 2017
Background: The del Nido cardioplegia solution (dNCS) was originally developed for pediatric cardiac surgery, being now also used for adult patients. Hospital pharmacies frequently resort to internal dNCS production which has led to an increase in the need for validated parameters for compounding and storage.

Hydrogen Sulfide Improves Cardiomyocyte Function in a Cardiac Arrest Model [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
[EN] Background: Cardioplegic arrest is a common procedure for many types of cardiac surgery, and different formulations have been proposed to enhance its cardio-protective effect.

Modified Del Nido “microplegia” reduces intraoperative, postoperative, and total blood productsCentral MessagePerspective

open access: yesJTCVS Open
Objectives: Previous studies have shown that Buckberg microplegia reduces the need for intraoperative blood transfusion by minimizing hemodilution. However, this approach has been largely understudied in the context of Del Nido cardioplegia.

Use of del Nido cardioplegia in adult cardiac surgery

open access: yesThe European Research Journal, 2022
In most adult cardiac surgery operations, the heart must be completely immobile and isolated from the blood. Therefore, the heart is stopped in diastole and a still operative site is obtained. Cardiac arrest results in ischemia-reperfusion injury. For these reasons, myocardial protection and the prevention of damages are required.

Blood Cardioplegia Induction, Perfusion Storage and Graft Dysfunction in Cardiac Xenotransplantation

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2021
BackgroundPerioperative cardiac xenograft dysfunction (PCXD) describes a rapidly developing loss of cardiac function after xenotransplantation. PCXD occurs despite genetic modifications to increase compatibility of the heart.

Enhanced myocardial protection in failing hearts: comparative outcomes of single-dose Del Nido and conventional blood cardioplegia in emergency low-ejection fraction coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG)

open access: yesMedicinski Glasnik
Abstract   Background: Optimal myocardial protection remains challenging in emergency coronary revascularization, especially in patients with severely reduced left ventricular function.

Cardioplegia practice in paediatric cardiac surgery: a UK & Ireland survey [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Introduction: Many techniques are available for cardioplegic arrest in children but there is a lack of late phase clinical trials to guide practice. We surveyed paediatric cardiac surgeons and perfusionists to establish current practice and willingness ...

Quercetin Reduces Vascular Senescence and Inflammation in Symptomatic Male but Not Female Coronary Artery Disease Patients

open access: yesAging Cell, Volume 24, Issue 8, August 2025.
In male patients undergoing CABG surgery, pretreatment with quercetin suppressed inflammaging and its associated inflammation, leading to improved endothelium‐dependent relaxation (measured ex vivo) and reducing new onset of post‐operative atrial fibrillation.

Outcomes of type A aortic dissection in Australia

open access: yesANZ Journal of Surgery, Volume 95, Issue 6, Page 1122-1128, June 2025.
Mortality outcomes for type A aortic dissection in Australia have improved over time, stabilizing at 18% over the last 5 years. Units performing fewer operations for type A dissection showed equivalent mortality outcomes to high‐volume units. Abstract Introduction Without surgical intervention, type A aortic dissection (TAAD) carries a high risk of ...
