Delay/Doppler altimeter data processing
2007 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2007The ESA Cryosat-2 mission will mount a de- lay/Doppler radar altimeter (DDA), named SIRAL, for the study of the trends in Earth's continental and marine ice fields. A DDA has many advantages over a conventional altimeter, retrieving a better resolution in the along track direction as a result of coherent processing of the backscattering energy.

Efficient Estimation of a Sparse Delay-Doppler Channel
2020 54th Annual Conference on Information Sciences and Systems (CISS), 2020Multiple wireless sensing tasks, e.g., radar detection for driver safety, involve estimating the "channel" or relationship between signal transmitted and received. In this paper, we focus specifically on the delay-doppler channel. This channel model has recently become relevant on the heels of the mmWave breakthrough, because the signals used ...

Delay-Doppler span estimation in OFDM radar
2011 45th Annual Conference on Information Sciences and Systems, 2011In this paper, we propose a 2-dimensional (2D) delay-Doppler span estimation method based on the energy leakage suppression technique for OFDM pulse train radar systems. Unlike the existing methods which aim at resolving multiple target reflections, this estimator focuses on the span of the target on the 2D delay-Doppler plane, i.e., the nearest and ...

Comparison of Processing Algorithms for a Delay/Doppler Altimeter
IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Letters, 2008The use of a radar altimeter is to measure the height of the reflecting surface when the instrument passes overhead. A delay/Doppler altimeter (DDA) reduces the along-track resolution cell using correlation of pulses within burst, as in a synthetic aperture radar, with the net effect of synthesizing an array with a narrower lobe.

Frequency coded waveforms for enhanced delay-Doppler resolution
Proceedings of the 2002 IEEE Radar Conference (IEEE Cat. No.02CH37322), 2003In this paper, we propose techniques for the construction of frequency-coding sequences that give rise to frequency-coded waveforms having ambiguity functions with a clear area - containing no sidelobes - in a connected region surrounding the main lobe. These constructed sequences are called pushing sequences. First, two important properties of pushing

Diversity waveform techniques in delay-Doppler imaging
SPIE Proceedings, 2003Coherent Pulse-Doppler radar systems, whether used for synthetic aperture imaging or surveillance purposes, generally transmit a coherent pulse train made up of identical pulses. While these pulses may contain complex modulation---for example, linear FM chirps or frequency and phase coding---the fact remains that these pulses are usually identical.

Abstract : The goal of this project is to formulate and investigate new approaches for forming images of radar targets from spotlight-mode, delay-doppler measurements. These measurements could be acquired with a high-resolution radar-imaging system operating with an optical- or radio-frequency carrier. Two approaches are under study.

Differential delay/Doppler ML estimation with unknown signals
IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing, 1993Previously published analyses on the maximum-likelihood estimation of joint frequency and time offsets between two noisy versions of a common signal have assumed a Gaussian random signal with a known power spectrum. In many applications, the common signal is not Gaussian and there may be no prior knowledge of its detailed structure. Instead, estimation

An algorithm for detecting closely spaced delay/Doppler components
1997 IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing, 2002This paper considers a method for estimating time delays, amplitudes, and Doppler scales of a multipath signal. The method is an extension of work previously reported by Manickam and Vaccaro (1993) which dealt solely with time delays and amplitudes, and extended by Habboosh and Vaccaro (see Proceedings CISS '96, p.633-8, 1996) to include Doppler scale.
