Food reinforcement, delay discounting and obesity

Physiology & Behavior, 2010
Choice is a central construct in behavioral economics, with choice research divided into choice of concurrent alternative reinforcers, which is conceptualized as relative reinforcing value, or choice of small immediate versus larger delayed rewards, usually of the same commodity, which is conceptualized as delay of gratification and delay discounting ...

Response factors in delay discounting: Evidence for Pavlovian influences on delay discounting in pigeons

Behavioural Processes, 2013
Pigeons completed a delay-discounting task where in different conditions the required response was either key pecking or treadle pressing. Because of stimulus-reinforcer relations that are known to form between localized visual cues and the delivery of food (e.g., autoshaping), we predicted that there would be steeper rates of discounting with key ...

The discounting model selector: Statistical software for delay discounting applications

Journal of the Experimental Analysis of Behavior, 2017
Original, open‐source computer software was developed and validated against established delay discounting methods in the literature. The software executed approximate Bayesian model selection methods from user‐supplied temporal discounting data and computed the effective delay 50 (ED50) from the best performing model.

Measuring state changes in human delay discounting: an experiential discounting task

Behavioural Processes, 2004
A new experiential discounting task (EDT) is presented. Unlike existing question-based measures of delay discounting, which rely on imagined consequences during task completion, this EDT requires that participants experience choice consequences (i.e. delays and pseudo consumatory responses) during the measurement period. As a preliminary examination of

Effects of delay sequence in a delay discounting task

Behavioural Processes
Delay discounting refers to the decrease in subjective value of a reward as the delay until its receipt increases. In the present study we assessed the effects of the sequence of delay blocks (increasing or decreasing) on discounting and the data systematicity using a titrating procedure with human participants.
