Delayed Fracture Healing

Seminars in Musculoskeletal Radiology, 2022
Abstract Physiologic bone healing involves numerous parameters, such as microstability, fracture morphology, or tissue perfusion, to name just a few. Slight imbalances or a severe impairment of even one of these factors may, as the figurative weakest link in the chain, crucially or completely inhibit the regenerative potential of a ...

Indomethacin-induced delayed fracture healing

Archiv fr Orthopdische und Unfall-Chirurgie, 1976
A patient with an ankle joint fracture-dislocation was preoperatively treated with indomethacin. As in previous animal experiments, indomethacin was found to have an inhibitory effect on bone formation. It is suggested that indomethacin should be used with caution if periosteal fracture healing is anticipated.

Delayed fracture in gels

Soft Matter, 2012
Subject to a subcritical load, a swollen polymeric gel may hesitate for a prolonged period of time without showing any macroscopic symptom, and then break suddenly. Such a phenomenon is usually referred to as the delayed fracture in gels. In this paper, we present a possible mechanism for the delayed fracture in gels from the continuum and fracture ...

Delayed management of facial fractures

The Laryngoscope, 1970
AbstractIt is generally agreed that best results in the treatment of facial fractures may be expected if the reduction is done within the first few days after the injury; unfortunately, due to a number of factors, this is not always possible. Excluding inevitable delay associated with distance from a suitable medical unit, and failure of complete ...

Delayed Fracture Healing in Primary Hyperparathyroidism

Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research, 1977
The incidence of fractures in primary hyperparathyroidism is highly variable. The possibility that there might be an increased susceptibility to fracture is discussed. Healing in most is without delay. Three cases of delayed or nonunion following fracture are presented.

Delayed diagnosis of femoral neck fractures

Injury, 1997
To determine the causes and consequences of any delay from the onset of symptoms to diagnosis, 1108 consecutive patients with an acute proximal femoral fracture were prospectively studied. In 154 cases (13.9 per cent) the diagnosis was delayed more than 24 h from the onset of symptoms.

Late Delayed Repair of Fractured Penis

Journal of Andrology, 2010
ABSTRACT: Early surgery has been recommended by most authors for fractured penis. Because of gross swelling of the penis, early surgery might have to be performed with an extensive degloving incision of the penis to enable better exposure. We report a case in which the man presented late with deformity and pain.

Delayed Union in Pediatric Forearm Fractures

Journal of Pediatric Orthopaedics, 2012
The aim of this study was to assess the predictive factors of delayed union in pediatric forearm fractures. Few previous reports have approached this complication, but contrary to these studies we excluded cases with known pathogenic factors and included in the sample cases treated with conservative methods. This is a case-control study of all pediatric

Radiation-Induced Delayed Union of Fractures

Radiology, 1969
The study of fracture healing inevitably includes the problem of delayed union since this is the antithesis of the clinician's aspirations in treating the fracture. Recent attention has again been focused on radiation-induced delayed union as one of the rare but intriguing causes (1).
