Coherent delayed self-heterodyne measurement of laser phase noise

SPIE Proceedings, 2011
We proposed a novel coherent delayed self-heterodyne technique for laser phase noise measurement. Measurements have been performed for DFB and ECL lasers and compared to self-homodyne using optical coherent receiver to demonstrate the validity of the technique.

High-resolution measurement of laser frequency drift using stable delayed self-heterodyne interferometry

Optics Letters, 2023
We demonstrate a laser frequency drift measurement system based on the delayed self-heterodyne technique. To ensure long-term measurement validity, an ultra-stable optical fiber delay line is realized by monitoring and locking the transmission delay of a probe signal with a well-designed phase-locked loop.

Linewidth determination from self-heterodyne measurements with subcoherence delay times

IEEE Journal of Quantum Electronics, 1986
The behavior of the power spectrum of an external cavity semiconductor laser has been studied using a delayed self-heterodyne interferometric technique that uses delay times less than the laser's coherence time. Experimental results show that the resulting power spectrum is consistent with the theoretical model.

Delayed self-heterodyne linewidth measurement of fiber bragg grating laser

CLEO/Pacific Rim 2003. The 5th Pacific Rim Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics (IEEE Cat. No.03TH8671), 2004
We realized highly stable lasing using a fiber Bragg grating laser. The spectral linewidth measured by delayed self-heterodyne method was less than 1 kHz.

A Novel Scheme for Narrow-Linewidth Measurement Based on a Delayed Self-Heterodyne Interferometer

2022 Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics Pacific Rim (CLEO-PR), 2022
In this work we examine the beat note envelope spectrum generated by a short fiber-based, delayed self-heterodyne structure and we present a novel linewidth measurement scheme suitable for characterizing narrow-linewidth lasers.

Delayed self-heterodyne interferometry using Faraday mirrors in a Michelson configuration

SPIE Proceedings, 2011
The use of Faraday rotator mirrors in a Michelson interferometer configuration is shown to significantly improve resolution and coherence for delayed self-heterodyne interferometry.

Delayed-self-heterodyne measurement of laser frequency fluctuations

Journal of Lightwave Technology, 1991
The two-sample (or Allan) variance of frequency fluctuations was used for laser frequency-noise characterization at Fourier frequencies below 1 MHz. The delayed self-heterodyne technique was used for the variance measurement. Analytical calculations ensure that just twice the variance values were observed at tau >

Delayed Self-Heterodyne Phase Noise Measurements With Coherent Phase Modulation Detection

IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, 2012
We present coherent phase modulation detection for laser phase noise measurements with delayed self-heterodyne method. The technique is demonstrated for the first time with the distributed feedback laser and external cavity laser. The results are within 15% of self-homodyne measurements using an optical coherent receiver.

Delay self-heterodyne measurement of narrow linewidth laser frequency drift characteristic

Optik, 2014
Abstract Resonator integrated optic gyro (RIOG), which employs narrow linewidth laser, is a high-accuracy inertial rotation sensor based on the Sagnac effect. The performance of RIOG is greatly affected by the frequency drift of narrow linewidth laser.

Laser frequency modulation noise measurement by recirculating delayed self-heterodyne method

Optics Letters, 2011
I propose and demonstrate the use of the recirculating delayed self-heterodyne (DSH) method for measuring FM noise power spectral densities (PSDs), which are the most fundamental measure characterizing the spectral purity of laser sources. By analyzing the DSH beat signals with 1, 10, and 160 km delays, the FM noise PSD of a narrow-linewidth fiber ...
