Frequency Noise Characterization of Narrow-Linewidth Semiconductor Lasers: A Bayesian Approach

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal
We describe a Bayesian estimation approach to infer on the frequency noise characteristics of narrow-linewidth semiconductor lasers from delayed self-heterodyne beat note measurements.

Electro-optic comb based real time ultra-high sensitivity phase noise measurement system for high frequency microwaves

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2017
Recent progress in ultra low phase noise microwave generation indispensably depends on ultra low phase noise characterization systems. However, achieving high sensitivity currently relies on time consuming averaging via cross correlation, which sometimes

Ultrafast Kerr Spectroscopy Reveals Bulk‐Like Solvent Dynamics in Concentrated LiTFSI–Acetonitrile Electrolytes

open access: yesChemPlusChem, Volume 91, Issue 1, January 2026.
Ultrafast OHD‐OKE spectroscopy is used to directly probe the intermolecular and solvation‐shell dynamics of LiTFSI–acetonitrile electrolytes. Despite strong ion–solvent interactions at high salt concentrations, the measurements reveal a persistent population of highly dynamic, bulk‐like ACN molecules, together with distinct slower components arising ...

All Polarization Maintaining Brillouin Erbium-Doped Fiber Laser With Sub-kHz Linewidth Using Saturated Absorber and Self-Injection Feedback

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal
A narrow-linewidth all-polarization-maintaining (PM) Brillouin erbium-doped fiber laser (BEFL) is proposed and demonstrated experimentally, which employs erbium-doped fiber (EDF) acting as both the linear gain and the Brillouin gain medium.

High‐Precision Laser Spectrum Analyzer via Digital Decoherence

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, Volume 20, Issue 1, 8 January 2026.
This paper presents a digital decoherence method that realizes the laser's decoherence process in the digital domain. Combined with the compact delayed self‐heterodyne interferometer, it enables accurate frequency‐noise power spectral density measurements of sub‐Hz linewidth lasers.

Octave-spanning tunable parametric oscillation in crystalline Kerr microresonators

open access: yes, 2019
Parametric nonlinear optical processes allow for the generation of new wavelengths of coherent electromagnetic radiation. Their ability to create radiation that is widely tunable in wavelength is particularly appealing, with applications ranging from ...

Effective Variable‐Speed Bearing Fault Diagnosis From Motor Current Signals Using Kurtosis‐Guided VMD and Multi‐Branch Convolutional Neural Network

open access: yesIET Control Theory &Applications, Volume 20, Issue 1, January/December 2026.
This study presents a novel deep learning‐based fault classification framework utilising Variational Mode Decomposition (VMD) for adaptive feature extraction and a Multi‐branch Convolutional Neural Network (M1D‐CNN) architecture for classification. The VMD hyperparameters were optimised based on kurtosis to ensure the extraction of the most informative

Generalized Heterodyne Interferometry in Kerr Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Photonics Research, Volume 6, Issue 12, December 2025.
Interferometry, combined with heterodyne detection, enables simultaneous measurement of light amplitude and phase. This work applies these methods to study nonlinear phase shifts from the optical Kerr effect during laser pulse propagation. Results show the nonlinear index is straightforward to retrieve at low phases, but at higher powers, pulse shape ...

25 kHz narrow spectral bandwidth of a wavelength tunable diode laser with a short waveguide-based external cavity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We report on the spectral properties of a diode laser with a tunable external cavity in integrated optics. Even though the external cavity is short compared to other small-bandwidth external cavity lasers, the spectral bandwidth of this tunable laser is ...
