Effect of Pest Control Strategies on Arthropod Pests of Apple in Europe: A Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesJournal of Applied Entomology, Volume 149, Issue 6, Page 957-987, July 2025.
ABSTRACT Apple (Malus domestica Borkh.) is a major fruit crop in Europe. More than 200 phytophagous arthropod species thrive in European apple orchards, several of which are economically important pests. Due to the pest pressure on apple production, consumer demand for residue‐free products and current policies to make food production in the European ...

Phylogenomic insights into the relationship and the evolutionary history of planthoppers (Insecta: Hemiptera: Fulgoromorpha) 基于基因组的系统发育分析为蜡蝉亚目(Fulgoromorpha)的系统发育关系及进化提供新见解

open access: yesSystematic Entomology, Volume 50, Issue 3, Page 495-518, July 2025.
Using genomic data from 285 species across 19 planthopper families, we conducted the first phylogenomic study targeting global planthoppers and inferred their phylogeny with the highest resolution so far. We proposed taxonomic changes including the establishment of a new family Borysthenidae stat. rev. and a new superfamily Meenoploidea superfam.

The complete mitochondrial genomes of two rice planthoppers, Nilaparvata lugens and Laodelphax striatellus: conserved genome rearrangement in Delphacidae and discovery of new characteristics of atp8 and tRNA genes

open access: yesBMC Genomics, 2013
Nilaparvata lugens (the brown planthopper, BPH) and Laodelphax striatellus (the small brown planthopper, SBPH) are two of the most important pests of rice. Up to now, there was only one mitochondrial genome of rice planthopper has been sequenced and very

Seasonal migration of Cnaphalocrocis medinalis (Lepidoptera: Crambidae) over the Bohai Sea in northern China [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The rice leaf roller, Cnaphalocrocis medinalis (Guenée), is a serious insect pest of rice with a strong migratory ability. Previous studies on the migration of C. medinalis were mostly carried out in tropical or subtropical regions, however, and what the

Eyes on nature: Embedded vision cameras for terrestrial biodiversity monitoring

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 12, Page 2262-2275, December 2024.
Abstract We need comprehensive information to manage and protect biodiversity in the face of global environmental challenges, and artificial intelligence is required to generate that information from vast amounts of biodiversity data. Currently, vision‐based monitoring methods are heterogenous; they poorly cover spatial and temporal dimensions, overly ...

Feeding-Induced Interactions between Two Rice Planthoppers, Nilaparvata lugens and Sogatella furcifera (Hemiptera: Delphacidae): Effects on Feeding and Honeydew Excretion

open access: yesEnvironmental Entomology, 2013
A series of laboratory experiments was conducted using electrical penetration graph, salivary flange, and honeydew measurement to study the effects of feeding-induced intra- and interspecific interactions on feeding behavior and honeydew excretion ...

Ecological and evolutionary consequences of temporal variation in dispersal

open access: yesEcography, Volume 2024, Issue 2, February 2024.
The importance of dispersal rates and distances has long been appreciated by ecologists and evolutionary biologists. An emerging field of research is revealing how temporal variation in dispersal can substantially influence ecological and evolutionary outcomes.

Field Assessment of the Effects of Transgenic Rice Expressing a Fused Gene of cry1Ab and cry1Ac from Bacillus thuringiensis Berliner on Nontarget Planthopper and Leafhopper Populations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
In 2003 and 2004, field studies were conducted at three sites in Zhejiang Province in China to assess the impacts of Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) Berliner rice expressing a fused gene of cry1Ab and cry1Ac on nontarget planthoppers and leafhoppers ...

Higher Fertilizer Inputs Increase Fitness Traits of Brown Planthopper in Rice. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Rice (Oryza sativa L.) is the primary staple food source for more than half of the world's population. In many developing countries, increased use of fertilizers is a response to increase demand for rice.
