Confidence Interval Estimation for the Ratio of the Percentiles of Two Delta-Lognormal Distributions with Application to Rainfall Data

open access: yesSymmetry, 2023
The log-normal distribution (skewed distribution or asymmetry distribution) is used to describe random variables comprising positive real values. It is well known that the logarithm values of these are normally distributed (symmetry distribution). Positively right-skewed data applicable to the log-normal distribution are frequently observed in the ...

Confidence intervals for the mean of the delta-lognormal distribution

Environmental and Ecological Statistics, 2007
Data that are skewed and contain a relatively high proportion of zeros can often be modelled using a delta-lognormal distribution. We consider three methods of calculating a 95% confidence interval for the mean of this distribution, and use simulation to compare the methods, across a range of realistic scenarios.

Confidence Intervals for the Ratio of Means of Delta-Lognormal Distribution

Studies in Computational Intelligence, 2017
This paper investigates confidence intervals for the ratio of means in the delta-lognormal distribution. The method of variance estimates recovery (MOVER) based on the variance stabilizing transformation, Wilson score method and Jeffreys method were proposed to establish confidence intervals for the ratio of delta-lonormal means.

Bayesian confidence intervals for the difference between variances of delta‐lognormal distributions

Biometrical Journal, 2020
AbstractUnnatural rainfall fluctuation can result in such severe natural phenomena as drought and floods. This variability not only occurs in areas with unusual natural features such as land formations and drainage but can also be due to human intervention.

Generalized confidence interval estimation for the mean of delta-lognormal distribution: an application to New Zealand trawl survey data

Journal of Applied Statistics, 2014
Highly skewed and non-negative data can often be modeled by the delta-lognormal distribution in fisheries research. However, the coverage probabilities of extant interval estimation procedures are less satisfactory in small sample sizes and highly skewed data.

Comparing Medical Care Costs using Bayesian Credible Intervals for the Ratio of Means of Delta-Lognormal Distributions

International Journal of Uncertainty, Fuzziness and Knowledge-Based Systems, 2020
When considering the medical care costs data with a high proportion of zero items of two inpatient groups, comparing them can be estimated using confidence intervals for the ratio of the means of two delta-lognormal distributions. The Bayesian credible interval-based uniform-beta prior (BCIh-UB) is proposed and compared with the generalized confidence

Confidence Intervals for the Coefficient of Variation of the Delta-Lognormal Distribution

2017
This paper proposes confidence intervals for the coefficient of variation of the delta-lognormal distribution which are based on the generalized confidence interval (GCI) method, it is compared with the modified Fletcher method. The coverage probabilities and the expected lengths are used for assessing the performance of these confidence interval ...

Confidence Intervals for the Mean of Delta-Lognormal Distribution

2018
Focusing on delta-lognormal distribution, confidence intervals for the mean are proposed in this research. This will be achieved using a method of variance estimates recovery (MOVER) and generalized confidence interval (GCI) based on weighted beta distribution by Hannig, and MOVER based on variance stabilized transformation (VST).
