Probabilistic shaping-based delta sigma modulation

Optics Letters, 2023
This Letter proposes a probabilistic shaping delta-sigma modulation technique. By performing delta-sigma modulation on the probability shaping signal at the transmitting end, under the same transmit power and the same net bit rate, the delta-sigma modulation signal based on probability shaping can obtain better anti-noise capability than the delta ...

Analysis of Delta Sigma Modulator

2011 International Conference on Computational Intelligence and Communication Networks, 2011
This paper presents the analysis of Delta sigma modulators. First order, second order, third order and a 2-1 cascaded modulator are presented here. The higher the order of modulator higher is the order of noise shaping offered by the design but higher order modulators suffer from potential instability.

A novel delta-sigma modulated space vector modulation scheme using scalar delta-sigma modulators

IEEE 34th Annual Conference on Power Electronics Specialist, 2003. PESC '03., 2003
With advances of semiconductor switching power devices, operating frequency and power capacity of switching mode power converters are much improved. In these converters, pulse width modulation (PWM) technique is widely used, but by using this control scheme, large peak noise spectra appear with odd interval of carrier frequency.

Subtractive dithering technique for delta-sigma modulator

2017 IEEE International Symposium on Circuits and Systems (ISCAS), 2017
This paper presents a novel subtractive dithering technique used in delta-sigma modulators which improves the spectral integrity of the modulators while minimizing the tradeoffs due to the use of dither. Dithering is commonly used in delta-sigma modulators to eliminate idle tones.

An analysis of sinusoidally excited delta-sigma modulators

ICASSP '87. IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing, 2005
This paper introduces a new method of analysis for Delta-Sigma Modulators based on modeling the nonlinear quantizer with a linerized gain, obtained by minimizing a mean-square-error criterion[7], followed by an additive noise source representing distortion components.

Delta-Sigma Modulators

2018
This chapter provides a general overview on the discrete-time ΔΣMs (DTΣΔΣMs) and continuous-time ΔΣMs (CTΔΣMs). An introduction on two different topologies of implementing high-order CTΔΣMs, single-loop and MASH, is presented. The benefits of employing a MASH topology for CT-ΔΣMs are also discussed in this chapter.

A simulation study of electromechanical delta-sigma modulators

ISCAS 2001. The 2001 IEEE International Symposium on Circuits and Systems (Cat. No.01CH37196), 2002
This paper introduces electromechanical delta-sigma modulators which take mechanical forces as inputs and use micromechanical transducers in the loops. A simulator is developed in which various nonidealities could be modeled. A simulation study on the 2nd and the 3rd-order modulators with single and multi-bit quantization is presented.

A hybrid delta-sigma modulator with adaptive calibration

Proceedings of the 2003 International Symposium on Circuits and Systems, 2003. ISCAS '03., 2003
High-order delta-sigma ADCs can achieve wide dynamic ranges at a relatively low oversampling ratio. As high-order modulators may cause instability, a new delta-sigma modulator structure employing hybrid integrators and adaptive calibration is proposed.

Noise Study of an Asynchronous Delta Sigma Modulator

IEEE Transactions on Communications, 1980
Summary: The steady-state probability density function of the error of an asynchronous delta sigma modulator in the presence of a dc input and additive Gaussian noise with RC power spectrum is obtained by solving the Fokker-Planck equation. The error pdf plots are presented for different system parameters.

Multiple description coding with delta-sigma modulation

IEEE 10th International Conference on Industrial Informatics, 2012
Multiple description coding (MDC) can be applied for multipath communication to reduce the negative affect of packet loss, and it is composed of three processes: encoding, quantizing, and decoding. Encoding and decoding are well researched in MDC, but there are few researches that focus on the quantization process.
