Abstract Standardized mean differences (SMDs) are widely used to quantify treatment effects in cluster‐randomized trials. However, covariate adjustment in hierarchical linear models reduces the residual variance components used for standardization, which artificially inflates effect size estimates and undermines comparability across studies. We propose

Geometric standardized mean difference and its application to meta‐analysis
Abstract The standardized mean difference (SMD) is a widely used measure of effect size, particularly common in psychology, clinical trials and meta‐analysis involving continuous outcomes. Traditionally, under the equal variance assumption, the SMD is defined as the mean difference divided by a common standard deviation.

Land snail successions in the lower Rhône valley allow us to reconstruct the postglacial recolonization. From the Lateglacial period onwards, Mediterranean steppe communities appeared. The arrival of forest taxa was significantly delayed by aridity. The question of glacial refugia, both local and distant, primarily concerned Mediterranean species of ...

Exit dynamics from organic certification in Quebec
Abstract In Quebec, organic‐certification exits remained persistently high at 5% –7% annually over 2021–2025, while entries fell sharply from 10.8% to 3.4%. By 2025, exits exceeded entries for the first time, contracting the certified stock and reversing a decade of expansion.

Are natural resources a curse on the distributional consequences of financial development?
Abstract This paper examines how natural resource dependence shapes the distributional effects of financial development in developing economies. Using a balanced panel of 90 countries from 1995 to 2022 and dynamic panel and nonlinear threshold methods, we show that financial development reduces wealth inequality when resource dependence is low, but ...
