The Bayreuth nuclear demagnetization refrigerator

Journal of Low Temperature Physics, 1987
In this letter we report on the construction and operation of the new nuclear refrigerator at the University of Bayreuth. It contains two Cu stages of 103.5 moles in 8 Tesla and 2 moles in 9 Tesla, respectively. After demagnetization the first stage has cooled a Pt-NMR thermometer in the field free experimental region to 15 µK.

DeMagnetizing Engineering

2024 Collaborative Network for Engineering & Computing Diversity (CoNECD) Proceedings
The lack of diversity in engineering programs has been a persistent problem in the US. One of the largest disparities in engineering enrollment is with Black students. It is crucial to address the unique challenges that Black students face in gaining admission to engineering programs. Despite the resources and effort committed to addressing this issue,

Experiments on adiabatic demagnetization

Physica, 1940
Abstract It is found that the temperatures calculated from the magnetic susceptibilities of three different paramagnetic salts are in agreement with the temperature scale of Bleaney and Simon. The Stark splitting of KCr(SO4)2.12H2O. derived from the demagnetization experiments is = 0.263 degrees, that of Cr(NO3)3. H2O δ = 0.283.

An Improved Operating Room Demagnetizer

Archives of Ophthalmology, 1977
An operating room demagnetizer that utilized a pulsed, smoothly decaying oscillating magnetic field is described. The instrument can demagnetize a number of surgical instruments at one time and can provide instantaneous and complete demagnetization.

Nuclear demagnetization of thallium

Cryogenics, 1984
Abstract A metallic TI sample of 99.998% nominal purity was precooled to 15 mK in a field of 6 T. During demagnetization unexpected and so far unexplained losses in the entropy reduction are observed; demagnetizing to 0.1 T yields a final temperature around 0.5 mK only, and demagnetization to below 75 mT results in a sudden loss of the total entropy ...

Stress demagnetization in videotapes

IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 1982
Experience with helical-scan videotape recorders has shown that the mechanical forces involved in handling the tape are sometimes sufficient to cause significant reductions in signal level due to stress demagnetization. A tape-loop recorder was used in an investigation of stress demagnetization in videotapes.

Power transformer demagnetization

2016 IEEE 36th Central American and Panama Convention (CONCAPAN XXXVI), 2016
Switching operations and direct current applied during routine testing procedures of static winding resistance measurement leave residual magnetization in the core and/or fully saturate the core of the transformer.

Demagnetization factors of ringcores

IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 1999
The expression for the demagnetization of ringcores has evolved from the equation for the magnetic field inside simple-shaped objects whose magnetization is uniform. A modified expression that allows for the angular distribution of the magnetic field in the ringcore is developed from calculations for a infinite length tube.
