Abstract Demand-side management (DSM) programmes can play a valuable role in regulated natural monopolies to compensate for the average pric ing signals to customers arising from classical cost-of-service tolls and tariffs. The corrective influence would apply equally to either increase or decrease demand, depending upon whether average costs for a ...

Abstract This chapter describes demand side management, which is a method to better utilise the residual load by shifting consumption over time. The two basic methods, shifting loads and reducing loads, are described. Several examples show how schedules can be created to better use the residual load.

Mechanism Design for Demand-Side Management
IEEE Intelligent Systems, 2017As the penetration of renewables into the grid increases, so do the uncertainty and constraints that need to be taken into account during demand-side management (DSM). Mechanism design (MD) provides effective DSM solutions that incorporate end-user preferences and uncertain capabilities, without jeopardizing comfort.

A Mechanism for Cooperative Demand-Side Management
2017 IEEE 37th International Conference on Distributed Computing Systems (ICDCS), 2017Demand-side management (DSM) is an important theme in studies of the Smart Grid and offers the possibility of leveling power consumption with its attendant benefits of reducing capital expenses. This paper develops an algorithmic mechanism that reduces peak total power consumption and encourages prosocial behavior, such as expressing flexibility in one'

Demand side management of electric boilers
2012 3rd IEEE PES Innovative Smart Grid Technologies Europe (ISGT Europe), 2012A control strategy for demand side management of electric storage water heaters is presented in this paper. The proposed algorithm reduces load variations, during any given optimization period, taken into account the base load. The algorithm uses the energy consumption model of the water heater as an input.

Abstract This paper describes methods of introducing energy conservation as an alternative to additional generation. Such strategies should be followed if conservation costs less than generation. However, many existing utility conservation programs have not succeeded because they have increased utility costs while reducing utility sales thus ...

Demand Side Management in Microgrids
2018 International Conference on Emerging Trends and Innovations In Engineering And Technological Research (ICETIETR), 2018India is a developing nation with growing energy demand. With the limitations in monetary resources, increasing the generation capacity should not be the only way to achieve this target. Demand Side Management (DSM) is one such viable solution to this problem. Management of power from the demand side is DSM.

Implementation of demand-side management programs
Proceedings of the IEEE, 1985This paper presents a conceptual framework for implementation of utility demand-side management (DSM) programs. The key steps in the process are: establishment of DSM goals, identification of appropriate end uses, assessment of technical options, and development of implementation strategies.

The Concept of Demand-Side Management
1988The pattern of electricity consumption varies in the course of a day, typically reflecting the patterns of human activity — high during the day and low at night. This simple fact has fundamental implications on the electric utilities business. Adequate generating capacity has to be available to serve the demand during the peak periods, even though much
