New Zealand Demersal Fish Assemblages
Environmental Biology of Fishes, 2002Demersal fish assemblages in the New Zealand Exclusive Economic Zone were identified using presence–absence data from 19 215 bottom trawl tows made over a 37-year period. The dataset spanned latitudes 34–54°S and depths of 4–1500 m. A total of 123 taxa occurred in more than 1% of the tows (121 fish and 2 squid).

Demersal cephalopods of the Gulf of Carpentaria, Australia
Australian Journal of Marine and Freshwater Research, 1994Demersal trawl and dredge surveys of the Gulf of Carpentaria in the early summers of 1990 and 1991 provided the first comprehensive assessment of the cephalopod fauna of this shallow, tropical basin off northern Australia. Twenty-one taxa (comprising five loliginid squids, seven cuttlefishes, seven octopuses and two dumpling squids ...

Are Larvae of Demersal Fishes Plankton or Nekton?
2006A pelagic larval stage is found in nearly all demersal marine teleost fishes, and it is during this pelagic stage that the geographic scale of dispersal is determined. Marine biologists have long made a simplifying assumption that behaviour of larvae--with the possible exception of vertical distribution--has negligible influence on larval dispersal ...

A Study on the demersal fisheries resources of Edremit Bay
2008In this study, trawl catch data were collected by bottom trawl from the Edremit Bay (the northeastern Aegean Sea) with R/V K. Piri Reis during the three fisheries surveys conducted on 1-2 September 1999, 30 September 1999 and 11-12 December 2000 were analysed. All trawl hauls were towed between 38-71 m depths in the inner part of Edremit Bay, which was

Bycatch of Demersal Elasmobranchii in the Strait of Sicily
Journal of Coastal ResearchFishing activities greatly threaten Elasmobranchii due to their vulnerable life-history traits. Elasmobranchii have been a common bycatch in the Mediterranean bottom trawling fleets since the 1970s, and most of them are listed as threatened owing to overexploitation by fisheries.
