Demersal fishery resources of India – an update- Winter School on Towards Ecosystem Based Management of Marine Fisheries – Building Mass Balance Trophic and Simulation Models [PDF]
The continental shelf of Indian EEZ extending upto 200 m depth is a rich abode of a variety of demersal finfish resources contributing substantially to the total marine fish production in the country.

Decarbonizing Fisheries Through Ensuring Healthy Stock Status
ABSTRACT Industrial capture fisheries depend on fossil fuels, which tend to dominate both greenhouse gas emissions and operational costs of this form of seafood production. Improving energy efficiency is, in addition to shifting to alternative fuels, a crucial path towards decarbonizing fisheries.

ABSTRACT The waters surrounding Korea are an economically–ecologically important region due to their high fishery productivity and role as seasonal migratory routes for the spawning and growth of commercially valuable species. We evaluated temporal changes in dominant fisheries species in encompassing large marine ecosystem (LME) areas 47, 48, and 50 ...

Modelling diet composition dynamics among North Sea predatory fish using a length-structured partial ecosystem model [PDF]
Multispecies fisheries management approaches must take account of the array of trophic interactions within the ecosystem. Studies of the gut contents of fish stocks in the North Sea show decadal changes in diet composition, as might be expected when the ...

ABSTRACT Quantifying where marine organisms are born and subsequently disperse to is essential for fisheries management. Here, we conducted Lagrangian particle tracking of viviparous rockfish (Sebastes spp.) collected in the Southern California Bight over the course of 16 years.

Changing fish trade and demand patterns in developing countries and their significance for policy research [PDF]
Trends for major fisheries products are evaluated for the past two decades, using aggregate annual data. Major changes have been propelled by income growth, changes in preferences and health concerns about meat in developed countries, leading to ...

Rapid warming of marine environments is threatening ecosystems, especially species at the edge of their range. This study analysed the genetic structure and diversity of Australian sea lion populations and found the northernmost population to be highly isolated with extremely low genetic variation.

Finite mixture models revealed that older, larger harbor seals specialize in salmon predation at setnets in Hokkaido, Japan, suggesting targeted management strategies focusing on these specialist individuals could effectively reduce fishery conflicts while protecting the broader seal population.

Abstract The biological carbon pump sequesters carbon through passive fluxes of biologically derived carbon, and by active vertical movement of marine organisms. Trophic coupling between pelagic and benthic communities increases the efficiency of the biological carbon pump as less carbon is lost to remineralization.
