Spatiotemporal Dynamics of Non‐Ecological Speciation in Rubyspot Damselflies (Hetaerina spp.)

open access: yesMolecular Ecology, Volume 34, Issue 12, June 2025.
ABSTRACT Non‐ecological speciation is a common mode of speciation, which occurs when allopatric lineages diverge in the absence of pronounced ecological differences. Yet, relative to other speciation mechanisms, non‐ecological speciation remains understudied.

Remove saplings early: Cost‐effective strategies to contain tree invasions and prevent their impacts

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 62, Issue 3, Page 661-676, March 2025.
Our highest‐ranking strategies represent management actions to start implementing in the field as part of an adaptive management plan that iteratively evaluates the validity of our simulation model and updates the management recommendations. Our study can be applied to guide management of invasive pines and replicated with any invasive woody species ...

Assessing population viability and management strategies for species recovery of the critically endangered Puerto Rican parrot

open access: yesAnimal Conservation, Volume 28, Issue 1, Page 104-118, February 2025.
Recovery of endangered species is challenging, especially when it involves reintroduction and dynamic environmental conditions. We developed a population viability analysis (PVA) for the critically endangered Puerto Rican parrot to evaluate current status and potential future management strategies.

Tree species abundance changes at the edges of their climatic distribution: An interplay between climate change, plant traits and forest management

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, Volume 112, Issue 12, Page 2785-2797, December 2024.
Our research emphasizes the crucial impact of historical forest management in shaping the current distribution of tree species. After controlling for the effect of forest management, climate change directly influenced tree demographics, favouring species based on their traits.

Early‐life demographic processes do not drive adult sex ratio biases and mating systems in sympatric coucal species

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, Volume 38, Issue 8, Page 1779-1795, August 2024.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Sex differences in early‐life survival can drive skewed adult sex ratios (ASR), which play an important role in mating tactics and parental sex roles. Among birds, cuckoos exhibit the largest diversity in mating systems and thus represent an interesting system to study ...
