Neural Plasticity and Hearing‐Speech Development in Children with Auditory Brainstem Implants for Congenital Hearing Loss Due to Severe Inner Ear Malformation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Data from a prospective cohort with 112 auditory brainstem implant users are analyzed. Younger age at implantation (<3 years), less severe inner‐ear malformation (common cavity, cochlear aplasia, and hypoplasia), and more intraoperative eABR evoked electrodes (≥60%) are associated with better hearing and speech outcomes.

The Demographic Transition and the Sexual Division of Labor [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper presents a theory where increases in female labor force participation and reductions in the gender wage-gap are generated as part of the same process of demographic transition that leads to reductions in fertility.

The Gender and Generational Consquences of the Demographic Transition and Population Policy: An Assessment of the Micro and Macro Linkages [PDF]

open access: yes
The demographic transition changes the age composition of a population, affecting resource allocations at the household and aggregate level. If age profiles of income, consumption, savings and investments were stable and estimable for the entire ...

Non‐Invasive Diagnosis of Chronic Myocardial Infarction via Composite In‐Silico‐Human Data Learning

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study presents a non‐invasive machine learning model to identify infarct regions in the left ventricle using cardiac strain data. By combining rodent‐based simulated data with limited human data, the model achieves high accuracy in predicting infarct size and location without the need for gadolinium contrast agents, offering a promising ...

A simulation model for the demographic transition in the OECD: Data requirements, model structure and calibration [PDF]

open access: yes
The developed world stands at the fore of a phenomenal demographic transition. Over the next 30 years the number of elderly in the OECD countries will more than double. At the same time, the number of workers available to pay the elderly their government-

Microbiome Single Cell Atlases Generated with a Commercial Instrument

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Single cell sequencing is valuable for dissecting complex systems and uncovering unique features in individual cell types. However, tools for single cell microbial analysis are limited. Easily Accessible Single microbe sequencing (EASi‐seq), which adapts a commercially available single cell platform for efficient sequencing of single microbial genomes ...

Cryptic Splicing of GAP43 mRNA is a Novel Hallmark of TDP‐43‐Associated ALS and AD

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
TDP‐43 dysfunction disrupts RNA processing, inducing cryptic exon 4a1 inclusion in GAP43 and reducing its protein levels. This aberrant splicing impairs axonal regeneration and contributes to neurodegeneration in ALS and AD. RNA‐seq of patient brains reveals GAP43 downregulation and 4a1 upregulation, identifying cryptic exon 4a1 as a potential ...
