Demographic Variables in Demand Analysis
Econometrica, 1981In this paper [the authors discuss] five procedures for incorporating demographic variables into theoretically plausible demand systems: translating scaling and the Gorman reverse Gorman and implicit Prais-Houthakker procedures.... These five procedures are used to incorporate a single demographic variable--the number of children in a household--into ...

Is Worker Age a Simple Demographic Variable?
Experimental Aging Research, 2002Birth-date-based chronological age is often used as a measure of worker ability. In the near future, employers will be required to improve their ability to assess the impact of aging on workers. The literature suggests a number of ways one might do this.

Characterizing food usage by demographic variables
Journal of the American Dietetic Association, 1982On the basis of an analysis of three-day food records, food comsumption by major segments of the U.S. population was examined for 65 food groups and subgroups. This study indicates that demographic factors, particularly age, race, and region, can affect both the percentage of persons using certain foods and the mean frequency of their use.

Predictability of demographic variables in the short run
European Journal of Population / Revue européenne de Démographie, 1988In assessing the performance of population forecasts, it is useful to have a standard with which forecast errors can be compared. Univariate time series models may provide such a standard. Mean forecast errors of time series models indicate to what extent the movement of a variable could have been predicted from its own past.

The Role of the Demographic Variable
1986The findings of the previous chapters suggest that the demographic variables play an essential role in defining the different poverty groups (see Chapter 6) and, consequently, in the dynamics of poverty as described in Chapter 7.
