Complete mitochondrial genome of Polymastia littoralis (Demospongiae, Polymastiidae)

The complete mitochondrial genome of Polymastia littoralis (Demospongiae, Polymastiidae) is reported here for the first time. The P. littoralis mitogenome is 21,719 bp base pairs in total length and includes 14 protein-coding gene sequences, small and large rRNA sequences, and 25 tRNA sequences. All genes are encoded on the heavy strand.

New species of Myrmekioderma (Demospongiae: Halichondrida: Heteroxyidae) from Brazil

The genus Myrmekioderma comprises eight species widely distributed, two of which occur in the Western Atlantic. We describe here a new species of Myrmekioderma from Northeastern Brazil with a discussion on the taxonomy of the Brazilian species. Samples were collected by trawling in the continental shelf of Sergipe and Alagoas States.

Suberitidae (Demospongiae, Hadromerida) from the North Aegean Sea.

Sampling in the North Aegean Sea yielded nine species of the family Suberitidae, four of which, Pseudosuberites sulphureus, P. hyalinus, Suberiles ficus and S. syringella, are new for the fauna of the Eastern Mediterranean, and three more, S. carnosus, S. domuncula, and S. massa, are new records for the fauna of the Aegean Sea.

In situ pumping activities of tropical Demospongiae

Studies employing Scuba techniques were carried out on populations of 3 species of tropical demosponges to determine in situ patterns of water-pumping activity.
