Assessing the Usefulness of Assurance Cases: Experience With the Large Hadron Collider

open access: yesSystems Engineering, Volume 29, Issue 1, Page 99-113, January 2026.
ABSTRACT Assurance cases (ACs) are structured arguments designed to show that a system is sufficiently reliable to function properly in its operational environment. They are mandated by safety standards and are largely used in industry to support risk management for systems; however, ACs often contain proprietary information and are not publicly ...

Fault detection in an engine by fusing information from multivibration sensors

open access: yesInternational Journal of Distributed Sensor Networks, 2017
Fault detection based on the vibration signal of an engine is an effective non-disassembly method for engine diagnosis because a vibration signal includes a lot of information about the condition of the engine.

Multimodal Sentiment Recognition via Residual‐Contraction Convolution and Cross‐Attention

open access: yesIET Image Processing, Volume 20, Issue 1, January/December 2026.
We propose a structured fusion‐based multimodal emotion recognition (SF‐MER) method to enhance emotion recognition capabilities. SF‐MER extracts EEG and facial expression features separately, classifies them using independent classifiers and fuses the classification results to generate the final emotion category.

On (Anti)Conditional Independence in Dempster-Shafer Theory

open access: yesCoRR, 1998
This paper verifies a result of {Shenoy:94} concerning graphoidal structure of Shenoy's notion of independence for Dempster-Shafer theory of belief functions. Shenoy proved that his notion of independence has graphoidal properties for positive normal valuations.

Proactive Congestion Detection in V2V Scenarios With an Integrated Multi‐Layer Information Fusion Approach

open access: yesIET Intelligent Transport Systems, Volume 20, Issue 1, January/December 2026.
A multi‐layer information fusion framework for proactive traffic congestion detection in V2V scenario is proposed; The underlying correlation between vehicle motion characteristics and real‐time traffic states is addressed; The feasibility and priority of the proposed congestion detection model in low CVs penetration rate scenario is validated ...

Urban Change Detection Based on Dempster-Shafer Theory for Multitemporal Very High-Resolution Imagery

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2018
Fusing multiple change detection results has great potentials in dealing with the spectral variability in multitemporal very high-resolution (VHR) remote sensing images.

Navigation risk assessment scheme based on fuzzy Dempster–Shafer evidence theory

open access: yesInternational Journal of Advanced Robotic Systems, 2018
In order to reduce the influence of subjective factors on navigation risk assessment, we present a novel scheme based on the fuzzy Dempster–Shafer evidence theory in this article.

Algebraic structures related to Dempster-Shafer theory [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
There are described some algebraic structures on a space of belief functions on a two-element frame, namely so called Dempster's semigroup (with Dempster's operation ⊕), dempsteroids, and their basic properties. The present paper is devoted to the investigation of automorphisms of Dempster's semigroup.

ConvNet and Dempster-Shafer Theory for Object Recognition [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
We propose a novel classifier based on convolutional neural network (ConvNet) and Dempster-Shafer theory for object recognition allowing for ambiguous pattern rejection, called the ConvNet-BF classifier. In this classifier, a ConvNet with nonlinear convolutional layers and a global pooling layer extracts high-dimensional features from input data.

Updating the Evidence in the Dempster-Shafer Theory.

open access: yesInformatica, 1999
An algorithm for updating the evidence in the Dempster-Shafer theory is presented. The algorithm is based on an idea of indices. These indices are used to code the process of reasoning under uncertainty (the combination of evidence)using the Dempster-Shafer theory.
