Direct differential absorbance profiles of denaturing transitions in ribosomal and mRNA

Biopolymers, 1979
AbstractA direct method for measuring the derivative of thermal transition profiles (ΔA/ΔT), first described by Pavlov and Lyubchenko [Biopolymers 17, 795–798 (1978)], is applied to the secondary structure of several eukaryotic ribosomal and messenger RNAs.

Helix-coil transition in DNA in the presence of a denaturating agent

Moscow University Physics Bulletin, 2007
A theory of the helix-coil transition in solutions containing a denaturing agent is proposed. It is shown that, if the transition is induced by an increase in the concentration of the denaturant, the range of the conformational transition narrows with a growing activity of the agent.

Structural transition during thermal denaturation of collagen in the solution and film states

Chirality, 2008
AbstractTemperature dependent vibrational circular dichroism (VCD) spectra of type I collagen, in solution and film states, have been measured. These spectra obtained for solution sample suggest that the thermal denaturation of collagen results in transition from poly‐L‐proline II (PPII) to unordered structure.

Modeling of the transition temperature for the helical denaturation of α‐keratin intermediate filaments

Macromolecular Theory and Simulations, 1997
AbstractSimulations of the stability of the secondary and tertiary structure of the α‐keratin intermediate filament (IF) monomeric unit of wool are reported. Based on the assumed secondary structure three segments of the primary structure were selected: 1A, L12, and a part of 2B.

Thermal denaturation of proteins as an order-disorder transition in a high polymer

Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1953
Abstract Extending the concept of Mirsky and Pauling, it is assumed that thermal denaturation of proteins represents a special case of an order-disorder transition in a high polymer. Extrapolation of studies on simple alloy systems and organic high polymers to proteins shows, qualitatively, that the unusual features of thermal denaturation, regarded ...

ATP-induced conformational transition of denatured proteins.

Journal of biochemistry, 1991
Although the conformational change occurring in proteins upon ATP binding is important in many biological reactions, the mechanism by which ATP binding induces the conformational change is unknown. We found that ATP induces acid-unfolded (pH 2) ferricytochrome c or apomyoglobin to adopt a compact structure with a significant amount of alpha-helix and ...

[Calorimetric study of the glass transition of denatured collagen].

Biofizika, 1990
Temperature dependence of heat capacity of native and denatured collagen samples with different content of bound water (6 divided by 27%) has been studied by DSC method in the temperature range from -50 to 150 degrees C. Heat capacity of denatured samples demonstrates a jump of 0.50 J/g.grad.
