Double dendrite growth in solidification [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review E, 2005
We present experiments on the doublon growth morphology in directional solidification. Samples used are succinonitrile with small amounts of poly(ethylene oxide), acetone, or camphor as the solute. Doublons, or symmetry-broken dendrites, are generic diffusion-limited growth structures expected at large undercooling and low anisotropy.

A Stable Mode of Dendritic Growth in Cases of Conductive and Convective Heat and Mass Transfer

open access: yesCrystals, 2022
In this paper, we develop a theory of stable dendritic growth in undercooled melts in the presence of conductive and convective heat and mass transfer boundary conditions at the solid/liquid interface of a dendrite.

Phase Field Modeling of Dendritic Growth on Spherical Surfaces

open access: yesFrontiers in Materials, 2020
The spontaneous formation of a crystal phase is one of the most common and beautiful pattern formation mechanisms in nature. Different instabilities in the crystal interface may lead to the growth of ramified structures, known as dendritic crystal growth.

Capicua Regulates Dendritic Morphogenesis Through Ets in Hippocampal Neurons in vitro

open access: yesFrontiers in Neuroanatomy, 2021
Capicua (Cic), a transcriptional repressor frequently mutated in brain cancer oligodendroglioma, is highly expressed in adult neurons. However, its function in the dendritic growth of neurons in the hippocampus remains poorly understood.

Three-Dimensional Lattice Boltzmann Modeling of Dendritic Solidification under Forced and Natural Convection

open access: yesMetals, 2017
A three-dimensional (3D) lattice Boltzmann (LB) model is developed to simulate the dendritic growth during solidification of Al-Cu alloys under forced and natural convection. The LB method is used to solve for solute diffusion and fluid flow.

Phase-Field Simulation for Non-isothermal Solidification of Al-Cu Binary Alloy [PDF]

open access: yesMaterials Research, 2019
Based on the principle of dilute solution approximation, a phase field model for dendritic growth during the non-isothermal solidification process was proposed by coupling the phase field, concentration field and temperature field, and was adopted to ...

Early Dendritic Morphogenesis of Adult-Born Dentate Granule Cells Is Regulated by FHL2

open access: yesFrontiers in Neuroscience, 2020
Dentate granule cells (DGCs), the progeny of neural stem cells (NSCs) in the sub-granular zone of the dentate gyrus (DG), must develop and functionally integrate with the mature cohort of neurons in order to maintain critical hippocampal functions ...

Simulation of dendritic growth of magnesium alloys with fluid flow [PDF]

open access: yesChina Foundry, 2017
Fluid flow has a significant impact on the microstructure evolution of alloys during solidification. Based on the previous work relating simulation of the dendritic growth of magnesium alloys with hcp (hexagonal close-packed) structure, an extension was ...

Numerical and experimental research on solidification of T2 copper alloy during the twin-roll casting

open access: yesHigh Temperature Materials and Processes, 2022
Based on CAFE theory and KGT model, the twin-roll strip casting mathematical model was established to solve the dendrite growth and solidification of T2 copper alloy in the molten pool.

Development of a CA-FVM Model with Weakened Mesh Anisotropy and Application to Fe–C Alloy

open access: yesCrystals, 2016
In order to match the growth of the decentered square and the evolution of the interface cell in a two-dimensional cellular automaton-finite volume method (CA-FVM) model with decentered square algorithm, the present work first alters the determination of
