Amphibian Chytrid Fungus Infection Influences Calling Investment in Male Brown Toadlets

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 10, October 2025.
The sublethal effects of infection and disease on male advertisement behaviour remain poorly understood. Here we show that male brown toadlets infected with the amphibian chytrid fungus produce calls with more pulses compared to uninfected males. The association we report supports the terminal investment hypothesis and has the potential to impact host ...

Hide and Seek: Species Detectability in a Biodiversity Hotspot Increased by Environmental DNA

open access: yesEnvironmental DNA, Volume 7, Issue 4, July–August 2025.
We demonstrated through Bayesian modeling that eDNA metabarcoding offers equivalent or higher detectability than traditional field inventory techniques for anuran species in a biodiversity hotspot. The number of recorded species was also higher in seven out of ten sampled streams.

Experimental Drought Suppresses Amphibian Pathogen Yet Intensifies Transmission and Disrupts Protective Skin Microbiome

open access: yesGlobal Change Biology, Volume 31, Issue 6, June 2025.
This study used ecologically realistic enclosures with pumpkin toadlets to simulate short‐term drought conditions in Brazil's Atlantic Forest. Drought reduced the overall levels of a harmful amphibian fungus, but it also disrupted their protective skin‐associated bacteria and caused the toadlets to cluster in wet areas of the enclosures, which ...

Anura, Hylidae, Dendropsophus nahdereri (Lutz and Bokermann, 1963): Distribution extension and new state record.

open access: yesCheck List, 2010
Dendropsophus nahdereri is included in the Dendropsophus marmoratus group. Its distribution is known fromthe Brazilian states of Paraná and Santa Catarina. Here we report new records of this species and briefly describe the habitatof calling males.

Reproductive aspects of Dendropsophus sanborni (Anura, Hylidae) in northeastern Argentina [PDF]

open access: yesIheringia. Série Zoologia, 2014
Reproductive aspects of Dendropsophus sanborni (Anura, Hylidae) in northeastern Argentina. The aim of this investigation was to characterize reproductive aspects of Dendropsophus sanborni (Schmidt, 1944) (Anura, Hylidae) in the northwest of Corrientes province, in northeastern Argentina.
