Adaptation of Dengue Virus to the Hamster

The American Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, 1952
Summary By serial intracerebral passages, the New Guinea C and Hawaiian strains of dengue virus were adapted to growth in hamsters of 2–5 days of age. Dengue virus should no longer be described, without qualification, as non-pathogenic for the hamster.

Dengue Virus Vaccine Development

2014
Dengue virus (DENV) is a significant cause of morbidity and mortality in tropical and subtropical regions, causing hundreds of millions of infections each year. Infections range from asymptomatic to a self-limited febrile illness, dengue fever (DF), to the life-threatening dengue hemorrhagic fever/dengue shock syndrome (DHF/DSS).

Molecular virology of dengue virus.

2014
This chapter examines the multiple functions of the dengue virus (DENV) genome, not only as a coding molecule for viral protein synthesis but also as a main regulator of viral processes. An overview of the viral life cycle is described, and the recent advances on functions of viral RNA structures, studies on the biogenesis and architecture of ...

Dengue Virus–Mosquito Interactions

Annual Review of Entomology, 2008
The mosquito Aedes aegypti is more widely dispersed now than at any time in the past, placing billions of humans at risk of infection with one or more of the four dengue viruses. This review presents and discusses information on mosquito-dengue infection dynamics and describes the prominent role that temperature and rainfall play in controlling dengue ...

Subversion of Interferon by Dengue Virus

2009
Dengue virus is sensed in mammalian cells by Toll-like receptors and DExD/H box RNA helicases, triggering a Type 1 interferon response. Interferon acts upon infected and noninfected cells by stimulating the JAK/STAT signaling pathway resulting in the activation of interferon stimulated genes that lead cells toward the establishment of an antiviral ...
