Comparative Evaluation of CLIA and ELISA Serological Assays for HSV‐1 IgG With Western Blot Confirmation in a Clinical Cohort: A Cross‐Sectional Study

open access: yesHealth Science Reports, Volume 9, Issue 10, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Background and Aims Herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV‐1) is highly prevalent worldwide, making accurate serological testing essential for both clinical diagnosis and epidemiological surveillance. Automated chemiluminescent immunoassays (CLIAs) offer operational advantages over enzyme‐linked immunosorbent assays (ELISAs); however, their ...

Mucosal‐Associated Invariant T Cells in Health and Disease

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 7, Issue 10, October 2026.
The roles of MAIT cells in health and disease and their therapeutic applications. In healthy individuals, riboflavin metabolites secreted by commensal bacteria at mucosal sites are presented by MR1, leading to the activation of MAIT cells. Activated MAIT cells can maintain the barrier integrity of mucosal tissues in a steady state or migrate to the ...

Thiazolidine‐2,4‐dione and Thiazole Derivatives as Privileged Structures for Dengue Virus: A Review of Medicinal Chemistry Aspects

open access: yesChemistrySelect, Volume 11, Issue 37, 6 October 2026.
This graphical abstract summarizes thiazole, thiazolidine‐2,4‐dione, and hybrid compounds investigated as antiviral candidates against dengue virus. Representative structures and reported potencies are presented in the context of DENV serotypes. Proposed molecular targets include NS2B–NS3 protease and NS5.

[60]Fullerene–Cluster Hybrids as Boron‐Dense Delivery Nanoplatforms

open access: yesSmall Science, Volume 6, Issue 10, October 2026.
[60]Fullerene‐based nanoplatforms functionalized with boron clusters enable the delivery of high boron payloads into cells. These structures exhibit good biocompatibility and efficient cellular uptake, accumulating in endolysosomal compartments. Their high boron density makes them promising candidates as boron delivery agents.

Can landscape management provide disease regulation services? A case study of Brazilian spotted fever incidence

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 63, Issue 10, October 2026.
Policy implications. Our results can help prioritize surveillance strategies and the implementation of preventive measures, particularly in areas where landscape structures cannot provide disease regulation services. Landscape management actions aimed at increasing the amount of forest areas in a more aggregated manner could help restore those ...

Assessing the Use of Oxford Nanopore Technologies Sequencing for Detection of Stable Wolbachia Bacterial Strain in Symbiosis in Wild Anopheles Mosquitoes From the WHO African Region

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology, Volume 28, Issue 10, October 2026.
This study assesses Oxford Nanopore Technology sequencing to detect Wolbachia in Anopheles mosquitoes. To do this, samples were analysed using the ONT field sequencing kit and sequenced using a minION flow cell and the ONT 16S barcoding kit and Rapid barcoding kit sequenced using Flongle flow cells.

[IN1438] Dengue and Dengue Virus in Florida

open access: yesEDIS
This publication provides an overview of dengue fever, focusing on its epidemiological landscape in Florida. Dengue, caused by dengue virus and transmitted through the bites of infected Aedes mosquitoes, is a major global health concern. Florida has experienced local dengue transmissions, and the incidence of dengue is increasing in the state.

The Adult Aedes aegypti Bacterial Microbiota is Robust to Infection with the Obligate Microsporidian Parasite Edhazardia aedis

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology, Volume 28, Issue 10, October 2026.
In ‘The adult Aedes aegypti microbiota is robust to infection with the microsporidian parasite Edhazardia aedis’, Dom Magistrado and Sarah M. Short* use high‐throughput 16S amplicon sequencing to reveal that in contrast to a multitude of other bacterial, viral, and microsporidian pathogens, infection with the microsporidian pathogen E.
