Impact of carbon source and COD/N on the concurrent operation of partial denitrification and anammox

Water environment research, 2019
In this study, concurrent operation of anammox and partial denitrification within a nonacclimated mixed culture system was proposed. The impact of carbon sources (acetate, glycerol, methanol, and ethanol) and COD/NO3−‐N ratio on partial denitrification ...

Metagenomic analysis reveals distinct patterns of denitrification gene abundance across soil moisture, nitrate gradients

Environmental Microbiology, 2019
This study coupled a landscape-scale metagenomic survey of denitrification gene abundance in soils with in situ denitrification measurements to show how environmental factors shape distinct denitrification communities that exhibit varying denitrification

Autotrophic Denitrification Processes

2017
Effluents coming from anaerobic digesters are characterized by a COD/N ratio between 2 and 10, high ammonia NH4+ concentrations about 500 mg/L and a temperature range of 25-35 ºC. To remove nitrogen from these effluents biological processes as the autotrophic denitrification with sulfur compounds, hydrogen or methane can be applied.

Denitrification in Rhizobium

Canadian Journal of Microbiology, 1978
Thirty-three strains of Rhizobium were examined for their reduction of nitrate under anoxic conditions. Three patterns of dissimilatory nitrate reduction were observed: (1) reduction to N2O and N2 (denitrification), (2) reduction to and subsequent accumulation of NO2− (nitrate respiration), (3) no reduction. Strains of R.

Plant-Microbe Interactions Drive Denitrification Rates, Dissolved Nitrogen Removal, and the Abundance of Denitrification Genes in Stormwater Control Measures.

Environmental Science and Technology, 2018
The microbial community and function along with nitrate/nitrite (NOx) removal rates, and nitrogen (N) partitioning into "uptake", "denitrification", and "remaining" via isotope tracers, were studied in soil bioretention mesocolumns (8 unique plant ...

Denitrification capacity and denitrification potential of subsurface soils

Communications in Soil Science and Plant Analysis, 1992
Abstract Although numerous studies of denitrification in surface soils have been reported, few attempts have been made to study denitrifying activity in subsurface soils. We collected samples of four Iowa soil profiles to a depth of 3 m and measured their population of denitrifying bacteria and their capacity and potential for denitrification.

Sulfur-based denitrification: Effect of biofilm development on denitrification fluxes

Water Research, 2016
Elemental sulfur (S(o)) can serve as an electron donor for denitrification. However, the mechanisms and rates of S(o)-based denitrification, which depend on a biofilm development on a solid S(o) surface, are not well understood. We used completely-mixed reactors packed with S(o) chips to systematically explore the behavior of S(o)-based denitrification
