A Model of Dense Medium Cyclones
Coal Preparation, 1989Abstract A Model of dense medium cyclones is developed based on balancing the terminal velocities of the discrete particles due to the centrifugal force against a random turbulent eddy velocity. An expression of the form — P/100 = e−xQ −1/e−x −1 where P is the partition number, α is a function of cyclone efficiency, particle size and density ...

Effect of dense medium properties on the separation performance of a dense medium cyclone
Minerals Engineering, 1994Extensive separation tests were carried out on a 6″ dense medium cyclone loop with the use of density tracers to study the effects of medium stability and rheology on the separation of fine particles. The medium properties were modified by changing the magnetic particle size and medium density. Four magnetite samples with RRB size modulus d63.2 ranging

Pressure drop in dense-medium cyclones
International Journal of Mineral Processing, 1986An experimental study has been made of the pressure drop characteristics of densemedium cyclones. The validity of a correlation developed by dimensional reasoning has been confirmed by experiments with a 30-mm cyclone using a stable suspensoid medium. and with a 104-mm cyclone using both water and unstable (conventional) ferrosilicon media.

Dense-Medium Cycloning of Fine Coal Refuse Material
Coal Preparation, 2003Laboratory testing was carried out to evaluate the performance of a dense-medium cyclone for treating fine coal refuse. The tested material was obtained from the feed stream to a water-only cyclone circuit treating nominal −0.6 mm bituminous coal refuse material obtained from an existing waste pile.

Prediction of Underflow Medium Density in Dense Medium Cyclones
1992The prediction of the underflow medium density, ρu, in a dense medium cyclone is important, both because many empirical and phenomenological models of DMC performance incorporate ρu as an independent variable, and for plant design purposes. This paper reviews the published correlations for ρu, and presents some recent work on the subject.

A comprehensive CFD model of dense medium cyclone performance
Minerals Engineering, 2007A computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model of the dense medium cyclone (DMC) has been developed, using Fluent, by coupling component models for the air-core, the magnetite medium and coal particles. Simulations of turbulent driven flow in a dense medium cyclone with magnetite medium showed that the predicted air-core shape and diameter were close to ...

OPTIMAL UTILIZATION OF DENSE MEDIUM CYCLONES
2016In the current world mining climate the focus is on reducing cost and increase productivity. In many instances this productivity is associated with increased tonnages, “sweating the assets”, which in many instances result in equipment being pushed to above their design limits. Simultaneously cost are being reduced, costs like spares holding, consumable

Dense medium cyclone technology to improve quality of coal
2015 International Conference on Quality in Research (QiR), 2015Coal-fired plant pollution is due to the release into the atmosphere of the hot flue gasses produced from the combustion of coal. Dust from power plants has been linked to cancers, while SO2 and NOx have both been identified as acid rain precursors. NOx has also been associated with the production of photochemical smog.

Modeling the Multiphase Flow in a Dense Medium Cyclone
Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research, 2009A mathematical model is proposed to describe the multiphase flow in a dense-medium cyclone (DMC). In this model, the volume of fluid multiphase model is first used to determine the shape and position of the air core, and then the mixture multiphase model is employed to describe the flow of the dense medium (comprising finely ground magnetite in water ...
