DENSITY-LIKE AND GENERALIZED DENSITY IDEALS [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Symbolic Logic, 2021
AbstractWe show that there exist uncountably many (tall and nontall) pairwise nonisomorphic density-like ideals on $\omega $ which are not generalized density ideals. In addition, they are nonpathological. This answers a question posed by Borodulin-Nadzieja et al. in [this Journal, vol. 80 (2015), pp. 1268–1289].

THICKET DENSITY [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Symbolic Logic, 2021
AbstractWe define a new type of “shatter function” for set systems that satisfies a Sauer–Shelah type dichotomy, but whose polynomial-growth case is governed by Shelah’s two-rank instead of VC dimension. We identify the least exponent bounding the rate of growth of the shatter function, the quantity analogous to VC density, with Shelah’s $\omega ...

Improving Results by Improving Densities: Density-Corrected Density Functional Theory

open access: yesJournal of the American Chemical Society, 2022
DFT calculations have become widespread in both chemistry and materials, because they usually provide useful accuracy at much lower computational cost than wavefunction-based methods. All practical DFT calculations require an approximation to the unknown exchange-correlation energy, which is then used self-consistently in the Kohn-Sham scheme to ...

The associations of socioeconomic status with incident dementia and Alzheimer’s disease are modified by leucocyte telomere length: a population-based cohort study

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2023
Socio-economic status (SES) and biological aging are risk factors for dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease, however, it is less clear if the associations with SES vary sufficiently across different biological age strata.

The high-pressure lithium–palladium and lithium–palladium–hydrogen systems

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
The lithium–palladium and lithium–palladium–hydrogen systems are investigated at high pressures at and above room temperature. Two novel lithium–palladium compounds are found below $${18.7}\,{\mathrm{GPa}}$$ 18.7 GPa .

Revisiting Experimental Signatures of the Ponderomotive Force

open access: yesPhotonics, 2023
The classical theory of single-electron dynamics in focused laser pulses is the foundation of both the relativistic ponderomotive force (RPF), which underlies models of laser-collective-plasma dynamics, and the discovery of novel strong-field radiation ...

A laser parameter study on enhancing proton generation from microtube foil targets

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
The interaction of an intense laser with a solid foil target can drive $$\sim$$ ∼ TV/m electric fields, accelerating ions to MeV energies. In this study, we experimentally observe that structured targets can dramatically enhance proton acceleration in ...

Space–Time Structure of Particle Emission and Femtoscopy Scales in Ultrarelativistic Heavy-Ion Collisions

open access: yesUniverse, 2023
The analysis of the spatiotemporal picture of particle radiation in relativistic heavy-ion collisions in terms of correlation femtoscopy scales, emission, and source functions allows one to probe the character of the evolution of the system created in ...
