Topological density estimation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
We introduce \emph{topological density estimation} (TDE), in which the multimodal structure of a probability density function is topologically inferred and subsequently used to perform bandwidth selection for kernel density estimation. We show that TDE has performance and runtime advantages over competing methods of kernel density estimation for highly

Functional variation among LPMOs revealed by the inhibitory effects of cyanide and buffer ions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study addresses the inhibition of lytic polysaccharide monooxygenases (LPMOs) by cyanide and explains how and why the magnitude of observed inhibitory effects depends on the way LPMO reactions are setup and on the type of LPMO. Enzymes known as lytic polysaccharide monooxygenases (LPMOs) are mono‐copper polysaccharide‐degrading peroxygenases that ...

Sensitivity and effectivity of Kim’s novel electro-thermodynamic cycle over Olsen cycle on waste heat recovering with high fluctuating temperature source using lead-free pyroelectric Ba(Zr0.1Ti0.9)O3

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2021
A novel electro-thermodynamic cycle with a higher waste heat recovery efficiency than the conventional Olsen cycle was introduced by Kim et al. in 2015. Thus, in the present study, the importance of the temperature factors was investigated, revealing the

Body fat assessed from total body density and its estimation from skinfold thickness: measurements on 481 men and women aged from 16 to 72 Years

open access: yesBritish Journal of Nutrition, 1974
1. Skinfold thicknesses at four sites – biceps, triceps, subscapular and supra-iliac – and total body density (by underwater weighing) were measured on 209 males and 272 females aged from 16 to 72 years.

Ablation of LRP6 in alpha‐smooth muscle actin‐expressing cells abrogates lung inflammation and fibrosis upon bleomycin‐induced lung injury

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Low‐density lipoprotein receptor‐related protein 6 (LRP6) is a key receptor for the Wnt antagonist Dickkopf1 (DKK1). DKK1 protein expression is induced in a bleomycin (BLM)‐induced lung injury model. We show that DKK1 induces proinflammatory and profibrotic genes in lung fibroblasts.

Causal Effect of Leading-Edge Sawtooth Configuration on Flow Field Characteristics and Aerodynamic Losses in the Supersonic Compressor Cascade [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Applied Fluid Mechanics
This study focuses on the TM-141 supersonic compressor blade as the subject of investigation. Utilizing the Reynolds-averaged numerical simulation approach, the study examines the impact of the leading-edge sawtooth structure on the blade grid, flow ...

Accurate spin-dependent electron liquid correlation energies for local spin density calculations: a critical analysis

open access: yes, 1980
We assess various approximate forms for the correlation energy per particle of the spin-polarized homogeneous electron gas that have frequently been used in applications of the local spin density approximation to the exchange-correlation energy ...

Characteristics of the Kelch domain containing (KLHDC) subfamily and relationships with diseases

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Kelch protein superfamily includes 63 members, with the KLHDC subfamily having 10 proteins. While their functions are not fully understood, recent advances in KLHDC2's structure and role in protein degradation have highlighted its potential for drug development, especially in PROTAC therapies.

Gedanken Densities and Exact Constraints in Density Functional Theory [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Approximations to the exact density functional for the exchange-correlation energy of a many-electron ground state can be constructed by satisfying constraints that are universal, i.e., valid for all electron densities. Gedanken densities are designed for the purpose of this construction, but need not be realistic.

Insertion of the FeB cofactor in cNORs lacking metal inserting chaperones

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nitric oxide reductase is an enzyme found in the bacterial denitrification pathway. The NOR active site contains a non‐heme iron, often, but not always inserted with the assistance of chaperones. Here, we study the insertion of FeB in the subfamily of cNORs lacking chaperones and found a putative channel, conserved in the family, perhaps enabling the ...
