Comparative Evaluation of Hemodiafiltration, Hemoperfusion, and Standard Hemodialysis on Efficacy, Inflammatory Control, Dialysis Adequacy, and Safety in End‐Stage Renal Disease: A Prospective Observational Study

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Chronic micro‐inflammation in patients with end‐stage renal disease (ESRD) is a significant driver of cardiovascular complications and diminished quality of life. While standard hemodialysis (SHD) effectively manages small‐molecule clearance, its ability to remove medium‐to‐large uremic toxins—the primary catalysts of systemic ...

Egg distributions of insect parasitoids: modelling and analysis of temporal data with host density dependence

open access: yes, 2009
A simple numerical procedure is presented for the problem of estimating the parameters of models for the distribution of eggs oviposited in a host. The modelling is extended to incorporate both host density and time dependence to produce a remarkably ...

Effect of DFPP on Ferroptosis in Peripheral Blood CD14+ Monocytes of Hyperlipidemic Patients Involving the ACSL4/LPCAT3/ALOX5 Pathway

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Hyperlipidemia is a major risk factor for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). Although statins are the cornerstone of lipid‐lowering therapy, their use may be limited in some patients by adverse effects. This study evaluated the possible impact of non‐drug treatment using double‐filtration plasmapheresis (DFPP) on CD14+

Density-dependence interacts with extrinsic mortality in shaping life histories. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The role of extrinsic mortality in shaping life histories is poorly understood. However, substantial evidence suggests that extrinsic mortality interacts with density-dependence in crucial ways.

EFFECT OF RE-OPENING OF A MIGRATORY PATHWAY FOR EEL (ANGUILLA ANGUILLA, L.) AT A WATERSHED SCALE

open access: yesKnowledge and Management of Aquatic Ecosystems, 2005
The construction of the Arzal dam eel ladder in 1996 allowed enhancing fluvial recruitment from a negligible level, limited to yellow eels crossing sluice and dam overflow, to a level ranging from 0.2 to 2.4 million glass eels per year.

A fitness trade-off between seasons causes multigenerational cycles in phenotype and population size

open access: yeseLife, 2017
Although seasonality is widespread and can cause fluctuations in the intensity and direction of natural selection, we have little information about the consequences of seasonal fitness trade-offs for population dynamics.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Evidence for density-dependent changes in body condition and pregnancy rate of North Atlantic fin whales over four decades of varying environmental conditions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
A central theme in ecology is the search for pattern in the response of a species to changing environmental conditions. Natural resource management and endangered species conservation require an understanding of density-dependent and density-independent ...

The Temperature Dependence of the Linear-in-Density Thermal Conductivity Coefficient Arising from the Lennard-Jones (12-6) Potential [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
Results of the modified Rainwater-Friend theory for the initial density dependence of the thermal conductivity arising from the Lennard-Jones (12-6) potential in the range of reduced temperature 0.5 ≤ T*≤ 100 have been correlated.
