Fishing Ground Identification and Activity Analysis Based on AIS Data

open access: yesFuture Transportation
The sustainable management of marine resources requires accurate knowledge of fishing activity patterns and their interaction with coastal infrastructure.

3-D Photoionization Structure and Distances of Planetary Nebulae II. Menzel 1

open access: yes, 2004
We present the results of a spatio-kinematic study of the planetary nebula Menzel 1 using spectro-photometric mapping and a 3-D photoionization code. We create several 2-D emission line images from our long-slit spectra, and use these to derive the line ...

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Global soil–climate–biome diagram: linking surface soil properties to climate and biota [PDF]

open access: yesBiogeosciences, 2019
Surface soils interact strongly with both climate and biota and provide fundamental ecosystem services that maintain food, climate and human security.

Dust-temperature of an isolated star-forming cloud: Herschel observations of the Bok globule CB244

open access: yes, 2010
We present Herschel observations of the isolated, low-mass star-forming Bok globule CB244. It contains two cold sources, a low-mass Class 0 protostar and a starless core, which is likely to be prestellar in nature, separated by 90 arcsec (~ 18000 AU ...

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

Derivation of the Lindblad Generator Structure by use of the It\^o Stochastic Calculus

open access: yes, 1999
We use the It\^o stochastic calculus to give a simple derivation of the Lindblad form for the generator of a completely positive density matrix evolution, by specialization from the corresponding global form for a completely positive map. As a by-product,

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Increase in the number of submitted maps for design purposes as a determinant of proper spatial planning policy

open access: yesJournal of Water and Land Development, 2017
Spatial planning policy is to set objectives and means through which public administrative authorities intend to shape the development of a specific area. This policy is to lead to the most rational use of the human environment.

The Dynamical Mordell-Lang problem [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Let X be a Noetherian space, let f be a continuous self-map on X, let Y be a closed subset of X, and let x be a point on X. We show that the set S consisting of all nonnegative integers n such that f^n(x) is in Y is a union of at most finitely many ...
