Air artifact suppression in phase contrast micro‐CT using conditional generative adversarial networks

open access: yesJournal of Synchrotron Radiation, EarlyView.
A novel workflow using conditional generative adversarial networks (cGANs) to remove/suppress air artifacts in phase contrast micro‐computed tomography, improving visualization and facilitating structural analysis, is described.3D virtual histology of formalin‐fixed and paraffin‐embedded (FFPE) tissue by means of phase contrast micro‐computed ...

Comparison of Dental Panoramic Radiography and CBCT for Measuring Vertical Bone Height in Different Horizontal Locations of Posterior Mandibular Alveolar Process

open access: yesJournal of Dentistry, 2018
Statement of the Problem: Accurate measurement of the available bone height is an essential step in the pre-surgical phase of dental implantation. Panoramic radiography is a unique technique in the pre-surgical phase of dental implantations because of ...

Fluid-structure interaction analysis of airflow in the lung alveolus [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
The flow simulation in alveolar region is imperative in understanding transport of particles and designing aerosol drug delivery systems. Air flow is dependent on alveolar geometry and ventilation conditions. In this work a three dimensional honey-comb like geometry is constructed.

Unraveling Alveolar Fibroblast and Activated Myofibroblast Heterogeneity and Differentiation Trajectories During Lung Fibrosis Development and Resolution in Young and Old Mice

open access: yesAging Cell, EarlyView.
Model of LIF‐to‐aMYF reversible switch during fibrosis formation and resolution in old mice. The main contributors during fibrosis formation to Cthrc1+ aMYF are Acta2+ LIFhigh alveolar fibroblasts. During fibrosis resolution, Cthrc1+ aMYF differentiate back to the LIFhigh (please write "high" in superscript) alveolar fibroblasts cluster.

Bayesian Nonparametric Policy Search with Application to Periodontal Recall Intervals [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
Tooth loss from periodontal disease is a major public health burden in the United States. Standard clinical practice is to recommend a dental visit every six months; however, this practice is not evidence-based, and poor dental outcomes and increasing dental insurance premiums indicate room for improvement.

Klotho Regulates Club Cell Senescence and Differentiation in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease

open access: yesCell Proliferation, EarlyView.
We speculated lack of Klotho (KL) would aggravate club cell senescence, which contributes to COPD inflammation. In this study, we collected chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) lung tissue using single‐cell RNA sequencing (scRNA‐seq), revealing club cell heterogeneity and cellular senescence in COPD.

Haptic bilateral teleoperation system for free-hand dental procedures [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Free-hand dental procedures are typically repetitive, time-consuming and require high precision and manual dexterity. Dental robots can play a key role in improving procedural accuracy and safety, enhancing patient comfort, and reducing operator workload.

Enhanced Pediatric Dental Segmentation Using a Custom SegUNet with VGG19 Backbone on Panoramic Radiographs [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Pediatric dental segmentation is critical in dental diagnostics, presenting unique challenges due to variations in dental structures and the lower number of pediatric X-ray images. This study proposes a custom SegUNet model with a VGG19 backbone, designed explicitly for pediatric dental segmentation and applied to the Children's Dental Panoramic ...

\u3ci\u3eMylanodon rosei\u3c/i\u3e, a New Metacheiromyid (Mammalia: Palaeanodonta) from the Late Tiffanian (Late Paleocene) of Northwestern Wyoming [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Mylanodon rosei is a new genus and species of late Paleocene metacheiromyid palaeanodont from a new late Tiffanian locality, Y2K Quarry, in the Clarks Fork Basin, Wyoming. The type is an adult dentary with P4 and a molariform double-rooted M1.

Endodontic approach for an autogenous dental reimplantation in an individual with cleft palate and lip

open access: yesRevista Cubana de Estomatología, 2018
Introduction: autogenous dental reimplantation is an alternative of prosthetic, orthodontic and/or implantologic therapies for dental rehabilitation; it consists in the extraction of the dental organ and its immediate replacement into another alveolus ...
